He was awarded the 757 HS Soccer “Man of the Match” for his dominant play on the back line against 2021 Class 2 Virginia state champion Nandua. Very good in the air and on 50/50 balls and is not afraid to challenge attacking forwards. Good with the ball at his feet and looks to start the attack from the back. A versatile defender who can play both outside or his current center back position on his high school team. Is a vocal leader on the pitch and very deserving of his captain’s armband. Plays for VB City FC and is committed to Virginia Military Institute.
F Diego Armas, First Colonial, Class of 2023
Missed an entire year with a knee injury that required surgery, but Diego has come back with a vengeance on the pitch. Is at his best in the middle of the field and has incredible pace with and without the ball. Outstanding technical dribbler who is difficult to dispossess. Not shy about attacking defenders in the box. Competes with an edge and has a great attitude that spreads to teammates. Plays for the Virginia Rush soccer club.
MF Anthony Panayiotou, Great Bridge, Class of 2023
A complete midfielder capable of playing in an attacking or defending role. Comes from a soccer family and understands the game at a level beyond his peers. His knowledge of the game allows him to be available for his teammates at both ends of the pitch. Can play with both feet with ease, distribute, and is great in the air. Defines the term “footballer.” Plays for the Virginia Rush soccer club.
F Jack Kaupas, Grassfield, Class of 2022
A gifted striker who challenges defenders 1 v 1. Led his Grassfield high school team in goals in 2021 and is leading the way again in 2022. Left foot dominant but can play with both feet. Physically strong on the ball and also has a knack for finding open space. Has a true striker mentality of going to goal once he is in possession of the ball. Plays club soccer for Arsenal FC in Chesapeake and is committed to Virginia Wesleyan University.
