Continue ReadingU.S. Soccer’s scouting network has been hard at work for the past few weeks with Regional Identification events across the country. The purpose of these events is to start the identification process early with an introduction to the methodology and style of play principles of the U.S. Soccer National Team.
The San Diego area is full of talented players and U.S. Soccer identified 31 players in the 2008 age group to call into the regional event. San Diego Surf leads the way in terms of club representation with 10 players on the list. City SC San Diego has six players on the list.
This event, which will be held on Sept. 20, includes one player born in 2009, Mia Corona. The Legends FC midfielder was part of the US Club Soccer id2 program with the 2007 age group in January.
Check out the roster below and a few players to know from this event.

Jaiden Rodriguez
Jaiden Rodriguez
Rodriguez is a center attacking midfielder who is one of the standouts on the highly ranked Surf team. She is active off the ball and always buzzing around the field to get as involved as possible in the play. She is a skillful player who likes to take players on in 1v1 duels. She always has her eyes on the goal and is not shy about taking shots from outside of the box. Rodriguez will be a player to watch in the future as she looks like one of the top midfielders from San Diego in the 2026 class.
Mia Villalpando
Mia Villalpando
Villalpando is another midfielder from that Surf team. She is a box-to-box player, a No. 8 type. She is excellent at connecting the lines between the defense and the attack. She is a dominant force on the field. She covers a ton of ground, wins tackles, and springs the attack quickly. Villalpando impressed scouts this summer with her performances during the Blues Cup where Surf finished as finalists while playing up an age group. Villalpando was part of the recent U.S. U15 GNT camp.
MacKenzie Stearns
MacKenzie Stearns
Stearns is the lone representative from So Cal Blues in the San Diego Talent ID camp. She previously played for San Diego Surf, so that’s probably why she is included in this group. She is a top center back in the 2026 class. She has the speed, skill, and drive to be a top player in the class. Stearns was also part of the recent US Girls National Team camp. Having her in this class will give a good measuring stick to the other players what a national team player looks like in this age group. It won’t be an easy day for any forward who is matched up against Stearns on the 20th.
