James Clark | Prep Soccer Scout
Cecil effectively is the counter balance to Villalpando, pushing the offense forward for Surf and helping to generate chances and goals for her squad. She will definitely be required if they are to make it all the way to hoisting the trophy.

If Roesch kept things tight at the back, Cecil made the magic happen offensively for San Diego Surf. Playing in a hybrid attacking midfielder/second forward role, she was the focal point of their offense and displayed a very creative game. Cecil’s vision was excellent and she always found great solutions to plays, making switches that caught defenders off guard and connecting quick backheel passes in the middle. A tall player, she used her body well to shield the ball and was very precise with both feet, scoring the team’s first goal with a beautiful left-footed finish from outside the penalty box.

Cecil was the best player on the day last week and she continued that run of play for the rest of the event while helping Surf to a spot in the final eight. The midfielder is a perfect example of where the game is headed. The best player comparison for her is Sam Mewis. There is this versatility to her game that makes you believe she could play any position and be a star, but the obvious answer is play her as a center midfielder and let her shine the brightest with freedom to take over the game.

Pearl Cecil Pearl Cecil M/F Laurel Springs | 2025 State #4 Nation CA has every tool to be an international level player at the senior level – and make this ranking list look silly in about five years. There are very few left-footed players with the physical attributes that she has – and the list is even smaller when you consider what she is already doing on the field. There are times when I think Cecil is overshadowed on her club side because there is just remarkable players in a number of roles, but the two-way midfielder does thing in games that make your jaw hit the floor. Her long graceful strides, and sharp cuts are nightmares for the opposition. If she receives the ball within 25 yards of goal, she is going to try to put you on her highlight reel with a broken ankle and a shattered ego. Cecil is a must-watch prospect in California and probably a No. 1 prospect on some scouts ranking.
