Reale, the UCLA signee from Hingham (Mass.), and Shubach, a South Carolina signee from (N.J.), each scored twice as the East cruised to a 7-3 victory over the West on Saturday at the 10th Annual High School All-America Girls Soccer Game at Tommy Oliver Stadium.
The East has won the last four meetings — and the last three have not been close. The East has rolled up 19 goals in last four matches, 16 in the past three matches.
The West jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Kendall Stadden pounced on a goalkeeping error and scored the first goal. Only minutes later, though, Reale netted her first goal to even the score. Kayla Wong and Reale added additional goals as the East opened up a 3-1 lead. Shelby Runje scored for the West, pulling the margin back to 3-2. Then, Jenna Tobia, Anna Rayhill and Shubach scored as the East upped the lead to 6-2. Stadden’s second goal made it 6-3 before Shubach netted the finale in the 7-3 victory.
Reale was named East MVP and Stadden, from Blaine (Minn.) who has signed with Minnesota, was the West MVP.
Below are the Best XI, as nominated by the coaches:
GOALKEEPER
An unbelievable athlete in goal. She has the height and skills to be a major college performer early in her career. She made up for an early miscue with several stops as the East gained control of the match.
DEFENDERS
Adam was the strongest of the West defenders. She played outside back. She has a good tracking mentality, good distribution and played to feet. She’s an all-around smart player whose play led to a couple of offensive chances in the first half.
One of several very strong backs for the East. Brass was physically strong. She was able to deny balls, and made the strong tackle when needed.
Described as “solid” and “intelligent”, Coffield was one of many outstanding East defenders. She was calm in the box and made clean tackles in the box, which could be a tricky proposition. However, through her play, she thwarted several West scoring chances.
MIDFIELDERS
A high school teammate with fellow Best XI performer Lauren Adam, Bramblett was a very creative player. She plays with her head up, always looking for that next pass or shot. She also did a nice job filling space with runs off the ball.
The third of three Indiana players to make the Best XI, the speedy Neighbors showed great field awareness. She’s technically strong and has great movement off the ball to create space or opportunities. She was moved around to a number of positions, demonstrating her versatility.
Schlueter was one of the most dynamic players on the field when she was in the attack. She’s technically strong with a great ability to turn with the ball and attack.
Wong was smooth and technical with great touch and vision. While she seemed quiet in practice, she did her communicating on the field. She demanded the ball and delivered.
FORWARDS
Reale is simply explosive. She’s a scorer, and that played out as she netted two important goals for the East. The first to tie the match at 1, the second to put the team ahead 3-1.
A great team player with outstanding work ethic, and she is all-around standout. Despite being a scorer, she volunteered to play in the back when team practiced Friday. Once the match started, Shubach found herself in a familiar position – scoring goals. She delivered with a pair of second-half goals.
Stadden was quite the physical presence up top. She’s big, strong. She was fantastic at receiving the ball with her back to goal and creating scoring chances. She was one of three players to score twice in the match. She also showed she could shoot with either foot.
