For the 2024 class, this is an important season as the scouting has a focus on the current junior class with coaches allowed to communicate with the players. The pace of recruiting has been slow, but there has been plenty of scouting already done up to this point.
In Colorado, there is a very impressive group from the 2024 class. Real Colorado has a top team in both the U19 and U17 age groups with key contributors from that class. Colorado Rapids also has a number of standouts in this group including a youth national team player.
Here are some of the names to know from the 2024 class in Colorado.
D’Agostino is an attacking talent on the Real Colorado U19 team. He is left footed. He is a powerful runner and a real handful for defenders. In a lot of ways, he is too physical for club defenders. Beyond that, his pace makes defenders uncomfortable especially in a foot race to chase down balls over the top. With his frame (six-foot-two) and strength, he can really fit into any role in the attacking third. And Real Colorado takes advantage of this, as the team will switch formation on the fly to get him into more dangerous spots. D’Agostino has the qualities to be a top forward from Colorado in 2024.
Rios is an attacking midfielder for the Real Colorado U19 team. He is an active player, and a willing runner. He covers a lot of ground in the game and makes a full commitment to making the off-the-ball runs to open up space for his teammates. He can play as a box-to-box midfielder as well. He is an important player for the Real Colorado U19 squad.
Flores is a defender from Utah who has previously played for Real Salt Lake. He is a versatile player as he has the technical ability to be an attacking outside back, but he is playing as the left center back in a three center back system for Rapids recently. It fits his strengths pretty well because he can still show his quality in 1v1 defending and is a weapon in the build-out. At the next level, there is still enough pace to pencil him as a potential left back as well. Flores should be a target for scouts because he can fill multiple roles at the next level.
After earning a sport on the US Youth National Team, Beaudry is pretty firmly in the spotlight whenever he steps on the field for the Rapids academy team. He is a very promising prospect for the position. He has a big frame and elite athleticism. He made a double save in the 2-2 draw against San Jose Earthquakes that showed his current quality and potential. The saves did not count as the player was offside, but Beaudry still blocked the initial driven effort from close-range and then sprang to his feet immediately to stop the rebound. Beaudry moves really well side-to-side in the frame of the game and has excellent technique in his shot stopping. His positioning and spatial awareness is very good. Beaudry has the foundation to be an excellent goalkeeper for a long time.
Romo is a physical midfielder who wears the captain’s armband for his side. He is a box-to-box type of player. He covers ground and offers support to his side. He is best when he is quickly connecting passes and moving to get the ball back. Romo is a top midfielder from Colorado in the 2024 class.
The right center back for Real Colorado is an imposing figure on the field. He is big, strong, and not afraid to put in a tackle. Real Colorado U17 likes to build-up through the right side of the defense because Lund is good on the ball and has great vision. He can pick out the runs and hit balls over the top of the defense with accuracy. Right back Chris Carroll has been very impressive this season as well. He is a pitbull on the wing and shuts down the opposition with his toughness and competitiveness. The Real Colorado U17 team is in a stretch of three shutouts in five games in November.
Haynes is a talented midfielder who is versatile. He could be a No. 6 or a No. 8. He has a great partnership with Andrew Mann in the Real Colorado midfield. Haynes and Mann can flip roles on the fly. Haynes is a bit more a playmaker and shows that off quietly with his passing. He isn’t making the flashy pass, but he is very effective at finding teammates to break the lines of the defense. He is good on both sides of the ball and has a high work rate. He has the tools to be an early contributor at the next level.
