Continue ReadingThe Colorado 2025 rankings were released last week. U.S. Youth National Team star Abby Ballek Abby Ballek null | F Fossil Ridge | 2025 State #26 Nation CO leads the way in that class. The Real Colorado 07 forward is a top national prospect and should be at the top of the depth chart for most top programs looking for a center forward from the 2025 group.
Ballek is not alone in her class as a standout though. There are top 2025 recruits at nearly ever club in the state, as well as some new names coming up from the high school game.

rnGreason is a NEW name to this list. The notes from the Real Colorado ECNL games in Phoenix read “Who is No. 9?” After spending a few weeks watching Real Colorado ECNL film, it’s easy to see the potential here – and realize that her perofmrnace in Arizona was not a flash in the pan. She is a winger with game-breaking qualities. She is full-throttle attacker. There is an unrelenting approach to her game that just forces defenders into mistakes. There is going to be a long list of college coaches who inquire about Greason early on in the recruiting process.

rnColorado produces top goalkeepers. Year in, year out. Goalkeepers is just a position of strength for this state and the 2025 class is no different. Krumwiede holds top billing for now. She was outstanding last season with Colorado Rush. She was aggressive off her line, confident in her commands, and athletic enough to cover high shots. Krumwiede made some incredible saves on penalty kick stops during the last club season, which showed she is one of the best in the position at this point.

Ava Arnold Ava Arnold M State #111 Nation CO has been playing so well in the last two years that Rush soccer keeps trying to find new challenges for her. The 2007 midfielder was promoted to the 06 GA team last year. She’s taken on a significant role with that team and almost looks ready for what’s next. She is left-footed but very good with either foot. She is an excellent passer – and can hit a 50+ yard pass with accuracy. When watching her game film, she has moments when she rushes into an action – either turning into pressure or forcing a pass too early, but she has steadily improved on that while playing against older competition. Arnold’s best quality is that she shows up in the biggest moments of the game. When her team needs a goal or a big play, Arnold seems to have an extra gear that no one else can match. She is one to watch in this class, as she only seems to be getting better.
There is a part of me that believe Zola (Lucy) Garnsey might end up as a top five goalkeeper in the country in this class in two years time. She is splitting time in goal for the Colorado Rapids 06 ECNL squad – because once again this state is loaded at that position. Her kick save against Solar at the ECNL National Event in Phoenix was the best save I’ve seen this year. It might come across as luck, but the reality is there is an impressive amount of technique, intelligence, and quick reactions that go into that type of save. Garnsey is a BIG-Time prospect in the position and one who is probably going to climb up the rankings quickly.

rnAfter a 16-goal freshman season with Colorado Academy, Celina Frenz Celina Frenz M State #142 Nation CO was already on the radar for scouts. She confirmed the quality with her performance at the ECNL National Event in Phoenix. She is an attacking midfielder for the Real Colorado 07 team – she is listed as a forward/midfielder on the roster but I saw her in a central attacking role. She is the provider for the stars in the attack, but she is capable of getting into the box and finishing chances on her own. She is a clever player who is capable of providing the key pass at the next level.

Ezra Wright Ezra Wright F State #165 Nation CO is another player who probably would not be on this list if it was released in August – and might be even higher on the list when it is updated in the spring. She is a center forward on the Colorado Rush Girls Academy 07 team. She is the type of forward who is always looking to go forward. She can play with a defender on her back, but she is probably going to try to turn the center back and run at goal. When she is faced toward the goal, she is tough to stop. She has good ball control with all parts of her foot, dynamic change of pace, and an ability to get off a shot quickly under pressure. Wright will be one player that scouts need to see in the spring as the 2025 class is in the spotlight.
Short is a player that I’m surprised does not have a bigger imprint on the national level. She has all of the qualities that scouts look for in a center midfielder. She is a defensive midfielder with an incredibly high soccer IQ. She reads the game well and puts herself in the right spots to make impactful plays. She plays simply with efficient touches on the ball. She rarely makes the flashy pass, but she does well in keeping possession for her team. She should be a top target for scouts at the defensive midfield position.
rnMercer is a player on the Watch List for this class, but one that continues to pop up on the radar. I believe she is a new addition to the Rush 07 GA team for this season. She is a defensive midfielder who is clean on the ball, moves well off the ball, and does the dirty work to cut out the passes to stop counter attacks. Her work in the center of the field is a key reason for her team’s success in that league. Fully expect Mercer to have a bigger platform in 2023 as she earns looks at Talent ID events.

Messenger is a player that stood out from the Colorado Rush GA games. She plays as the right center back for the team. She is strong in the tackle, and great at poking the ball away from attacking players after a bad touch. She is calm in possession and does well in finding the feet of teammates. She is another one to watch in 2023 as she could quickly jump into a high spot in the rankings.
