Prep Soccer was in attendance during the first two days of the event and we were able to watch eight different teams compete -Eisenhower, Fort Bend Clements, George Ranch, Memorial, Royal, Shadow Creek, Seven Lakes and Tompkins.
Several prospects stood out in the matches involving these teams and we’ll go over them during the week, starting with the goalkeepers:
Gregor Jones
Gregor Jones
The match we were in attendance was the only one in which Jones conceded goals (a 3-0 loss to Tompkins), but that didn’t make seeing all his qualities any more difficult. Also a football student-athlete, Jones impresses by his size and athleticism, but is surprisingly agile and can get off his line really quick to stop transition plays. He’s the kind of goalkeeper that makes his team feel confident only with his presence. Jones uses his height and length really well to collect crosses that are sent toward George Ranch’s penalty area.
Benjamin Aviles
Benjamin Aviles
Aviles was a part of a strong Seven Lakes that was one of (if not the) best teams in the entire tournament. He kept clean sheets in all three matches and although the great work make by the field players rarely exposed Aviles to dangerous situations, he did very well when called upon, responding to the challenge. The goalkeeper displayed great agility and solid decision-making skills when challenged and also played well with his feet.

Helme was scored on three times in one half against Seven Lakes, but couldn’t have done much in any of those goals and showed interesting qualities to play between the posts. He’s very good technically, has excellent reflexes and does a very good job in using his legs to make saves. He’s also very confident and comfortable on the ball, connecting good passes from the back and helping the team’s buildup even when he’s under pressure. Helme also excels with his communication and instructs his team nonstop during match, offering a vocal leadership.
William Duncan

Duncan got clean sheets in all three matches he played for and also stood out as one of top goalkeepers in the entire event. He is one of those goalkeepers who quietly get the job done and benefit from their great positioning to make important, yet not visually spectacular saves. He rarely rebounds the ball and is very intelligent and safe with his decisions when he can’t catch the ball and end the play for good. Ducan also uses his size well to take up space from opposing attackers when he need to leave the posts.
Calvin Millington
Calvin Millington
Millington let two goals in when I watched him play against Eisenhower, but he still made a very good impression. He proved to be extremely reliable, not allowing second chances in the shots that were fired his way, and displayed a high level of agility and good reflexes between the posts. Another area of his game that stood out was his ability to put the ball back in play with intelligent passes.
