Chase Malone
Only just a sophomore, Malone dominated both sides of the pitch for the Railroaders in 2022 lifting the side to the Maryland 1A State Championships. As a defender, he could lockdown the toughest of attackers with a strong, professional tackle or an efficient box out using his height and strength perfectly. But he is more than just a defender, he can also lend a hand on the attack. He scored the go-ahead goal for Brunswick in their 1-0 win in the 1A State Championship. It will be interesting to see where he ends up on the eleven next season as Brunswick looks to defend their title.
Tyler Sadler
Tyler Sadler
Sadler led a a young, inexperienced Boonsboro side through a tough Central Maryland Conference and came out as one of the top young defenders in the Conference. His ability to make emergency clears and passes to the outside helped keep his side in matches. He is an excellent organizer on the defense and helped lead the counter-attack. In their 1A Regional match against Williamsport, he made several key stops to give his side a chance at advancing. While they fell just short 2-0 it was definitely a result that both he and the side can learn and build from next season.
Ryan Andrews
Ryan Andrews
Andrews is a strong, physical defender that likes to push attackers to their limits and create chances off of the counter-attack. He is very effective at reading attackers from distance and making smart, tactical runs to cut them off early. He is a very strong, tall defender that isn’t afraid of mixing it up with multiple forwards/midfielders. At Pipeline last season he was named to the ECNL All Mid-Atlantic Conference team and will be a member of the ECNL All-America team.
Lloyd was an integral part of the McDonogh backline that finished second in the MIAA Tournament Championship this season. In the finals against Calvert Hall, one of the top high school sides in the country, he more than held his own, keeping them at bay with excellent box outs and superb passing from the back. Although Calvert Hall did end up winning the match 1-0, Lloyd and the Eagles impressed and should be considered as one of the top teams in the state heading into next season.
Highlights
James Tarallo
James Tarallo
Although Tarallo’s primary position is attacking midfield, last season he was excellent in the defensive midfield for Severn School’s junior varsity team, leading them to a 16-0. He is excellent at leading the defensive midfield and organization long, sustainable possessions. Severn is one of the top private schools in the Washington D.C. Metro Region, going undefeated in the MIAA and winning the ‘B’ Conference Championships. Tarallo should slot in nicely ahead of his junior season, having spent the spring playing for Pipeline on one of the top teams in the ECNL.
Christian Muschette
Christian Muschette
Muschette was a member of a North Point backline that allowed just seven goals last season in the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference. He possesses superb closing speed and makes excellent track backs to keep attackers from getting a clear shot at goal. The Future Monarchs defender is also on point- when he is on the field he is always talking to his teammates, always keeping the backline organized and making sure all marking assignments are covered. He will continue to only get better and better (Monarchs are one of the top youth club programs in EDP) which will be bad news for the rest of the SMAC over the next two years.
