Prep Soccer will be following the action and constantly providing match reports on some of the most exciting duels and highlighting the players that are standing out for their teams. We’ll also be presenting some of the most promising teams that we get to watch live so you know them a little bit better.
Bridgeland Bears
The Bridgeland Bears from the Cypress area, around Houston, compete in the UIL 6A Division – Region 2, District 16. The program is fairly new, having started in 2017, but has had immediate success, appearing in the playoffs in the last three seasons. The Bears have a good mix of solid seniors and promising underclassmen and are one of the strongest teams in the region.
Players to Watch
Elise Bienvenu
Elise Bienvenu
A second-year goalkeeper, Bienvenu acts like a veteran between the posts for Bridgeland. Very reliable, she transmits a lot of confidence to her teammates with her steady play on goal. Bienvenu has a great combination of physical and technical tools, being tall and agile, but also very technical with her actions. She handles long-distance shots very well but is also quick to get off her lane and face an opposing attacker. The goalkeeper is also very solid in the air, collecting crosses with relative ease.
Brooke Martin
Brooke Martin
A freshman, Martin is another player who will have a big role in Bridgeland’s defensive system for years to come. She’s already a solid defender, with great instincts and excellent positioning, and will certainly continue to develop with the Bears. Martin reads the game very well and typically gets several interceptions every match. She’s also really good at covering the fullbacks with her pace and is very strong in possession too, connecting good passes from the backline.
Riley Hammond
Riley Hammond
Hammond plays a big role right at the heart of Bridgeland’s midfield as the game goes a lot through her in her defensive midfield role. She’s very active on both sides of the ball, stopping plays and getting the ball back on defense, but also helping the team circulate it when in possession. Hammond is a tall and physical player, who uses her body well to win plays, and is very effective at reading the game and getting interceptions too. She does a very good job of distributing the ball as well, often learning the right time to speed things up with more direct passes from the middle.
Bridgeland’s top offensive player, Robinson is a complete attacker, who’s really difficult to stop. She truly has everything any coach would want from a forward, combining great size, impressive pace and excellent technique. Robinson’s skill set allows her to play in a few different ways up top as she can be positioned wider in order to beat opponents with her pace or play more centrally, where her movement off-the-ball and her superb finishing skills makes of her a huge threat.
Maddy Benker
Maddy Benker
A forward with great mobility and who works really hard off the ball, Benker is often Bridgeland’s player that’s closest to the goal. Her excellent movement always keeps opposing center backs occupied and, if she can’t get on the ball, it will certainly generate spaces for her teammates to play. Benker is very strong at checking back on midfield to combine with her teammates but also has a strong presence in the penalty box, making good runs and getting on the end of crosses.
