Prep Soccer will be following the action and constantly providing match reports on some of the most exciting duels and highlighting the players that are standing out for their teams. We’ll also be presenting some of the most promising teams that we get to watch live so you know them a little bit better.
Cy-Fair Lady Bobcats
The Cy-Fair Lady Bobcats from Cypress are part of the UIL Division 6A – Region 3, District 17. The team has made it to the playoffs in the last two seasons and made a run to the Regional Finals, their best campaign ever, only two years ago in 2020-2021. Some players from that team are still on the squad and form the core of Cy-Fair’s roster this time.
Players to Watch
Esther Quintanilla
Esther Quintanilla
Quintanilla has earned a starting spot in Cy-Fair’s team as a freshman and has an absolutely bright future as a goalkeeper. She has great size to play the position and is more skilled and consistent than one would expect considering its her first season of high school soccer. Quintanilla has excellent reflexes and is very quick to leave her position and take up the space from opposing attackers. She uses her size well to collect crosses in the air and has good ball control with her feet.
Sofia Vazquez
Sofia Vazquez
Vazquez is probably Cy-Fair’s most important defensive player. She’s very versatile and can play as a left-back, which happens more often, or in the center of the team’s backline. Vazquez is very solid when it comes to defending 1-v-1 as she’s very good at occupying the space and forcing the opponent to go away from the goal. She’s one to give up on plays either and, if an attacker manages to beat her off the dribble, expect Vazquez to get right back at it. She plays a simple, but efficient game in possession, connecting short passes and avoiding mistakes.
Magen Brotemarkle
Magen Brotemarkle
Brotemarkle is the engine that keeps Cy-Fair’s midfield going no matter what. She’s very active in the center of the field and does an excellent job of winning the ball back and regaining possession for the Lady Bobcats. Brotemarkle is also very clean with the ball at her feet and is extremely efficient when operating in tight spaces and finding spaces to connect with her teammates. She also offers some interesting offensive support with her long-distance shots and is the team’s designated penalty kick taker.
A talented playmaker, Smith is Cy-Fair’s most skilled offensive player. She makes things happen from her midfield position and is very creative and dangerous when on the ball. A lefty, she’s very clean and calm on the ball and often sees spaces no many others would, connecting with teammates in good spots. Smith is also very good at progressing the ball up the field on her own. Besides having good size and using it well to shield the ball, the midfielder is also great at changing directions and the pace of her runs.
Brenley Campbell
Brenley Campbell
Campbell’s movement up top is extremely valuable for Cy-Fair as she works hard off the ball to offer alternatives to her teammates. Mostly used on the left, she can play on the right too and had good pace to dribble the ball forward and good vision to connect with her teammates and make plays. Campbell also plays an important role on defense, tracking back and helping the Lady Bobcats fight to win the ball back.
