Michigan Hawks and U.S. Youth National Team defender Mya Brandon Mya Brandon null | D State #6 Nation MI is the No. 1 recruit in this class. Fellow Youth national team player Chloe Ricketts Chloe Ricketts M Dexter | 2025 State MI , who earned an invite to preseason training camp with NWSL side Washington Spirit, is the No. 2 recruit in the class. While Brandon and Ricketts get much of the headlines, below is a rundown of the other players in the contention of the top spot in the class in Michigan.
rnCiampa is one of those players that is just on the door of making it to the youth national team. That’s not insider information, but rather scouting observations. She has the tools and impact that player at that plateau show regularly but she has not been in the full camp recently, which is a shame because she always seems to lift her game in the biggest moments. She is a midfielder who is a top performer for Nationals (one of the best clubs in the country to watch players develop). Her highlights from the fall include a number of goals and other noteworthy plays. The aspect of her game that has improved is that burst of pace and power she shows from a start-stop position. She can blow past defenders now and she has quick feet to escape tackles in the center of the field. Her weak-foot shots from outside of the box are also a big improvement from previous seasons.
Highlights
Kailey Shannon Kailey Shannon D State #76 Nation MI is one of the players from this class who just kept jumping off game film. The left center back from Michigan Hawks was a miss in the initial rankings for this class – and the national rankings. She is that good. Shannon will be a player that college coaches quickly move to contact when the recruitment period opens. Michigan Hawks does an exceptional job at developing center backs. You have to be a smart soccer player to play that role for that club – I mean that in both how you care for possession and how you see the game from a balance perspective of organizing teammates. Shannon does that – and has the Hawks sitting at the top spot in the Midwest Conference. The cherry on top is that she is a weapon in aerial duels. She tracks the flight of the ball better than most players and is not afraid to put her head on the ball.
Moving from one Michigan Hawks standout to another Hawks 07 ECNL standout. Filbrun is the defensive center midfielder. She fits all of the traits that scouts look for from a player in that role. She makes quick-decisions, puts in a tackle, and looks comfortable on the ball in the center of the field.
Nicole Grimaldo Nicole Grimaldo M Edsel Ford | 2025 State #104 Nation MI might not be on list for long. Nicole and her sister Niomi Grimaldo Niomi Grimaldo M #161 Nation MI were invited to a trial with Liga BBVA MX Femenil club Pachuca in January. The midfielder could be on the fast track to that level. Her goal against Michigan Hawks from the preseason was a great example of her as a player. She plays a pass out wide that sends the forward into space. She continues her run forward with the correct timing so she can make a far post run and then head home the goal.
Chu is another standout center back on this list. She plays as the left center back for Nationals. She is right-footed but she is good with both of her feet and her highlight reel shows the quality of her passing with her left foot. The other asset of Chu’s game that really stands out is her vision and recognition on when to drive forward with the ball at her feet. She is a self-described versatile player and that is pretty apt. She could play any of five roles comfortably at the next level (back four and defensive midfielder).
The No. 1 goalkeeper in Michigan in the 2025 class in this update is Emily Kruntovski Emily Kruntovski 5’10” | GK Groves | 2025 State #184 Nation MI . The Nationals shot-stopper had an excellent showing during the Winter Champions Cup in Arizona as part of the Girls Academy showcase event. She was confident off her line and showed secure hands in handling crosses in traffic. She made some highlight-reel saves during the event.
Highlights
Brooklynn Harding Brooklynn Harding GK Adams | 2025 State #218 Nation MI is a rare prospect in that she has experience in both futsal and (outdoor) soccer as a goalkeeper. The indoor element of it has helped quite a bit with her footwork and her recognition on when to come off her line. She has a lot of confidence in coming off her line for tackles and using her sliding tackles (with her hands) to take the ball off the foot of the attacker. Harding is also excellent at distribution with either her feet or hands.
Amelia Deren can easily make the claim to be one of the best defensive midfielders in the country in her defensive skills. She might be the best at pulling off a clean slide tackle. She influences the game with her hard-nose approach because she quickly can change the game plan for the opposition as players tend to shy away from challenging her after the first or second tackle. Deren does well in checking her shoulders before receiving the ball. She gives good space in the midfield and sets up clean triangles to help facilitate possession for her team.
Highlights
Sophia Enwright Sophia Enwright 5’8″ | D Seaholm | 2025 State #227 Nation MI is another player that we missed on the initial ranking for this class. She is a defender for the National program. She has played as both an outside back and a center back. She is competitive and a standout in 1v1 duels. She does well in winning possession as she is quick to spring the attack and supply a clean pass to a teammate. Enwright has the quality to fit in at any spot in the back four at the next level.
Highlights
Zoerhoff is the No. 1 forward in Michigan in the class of 2025. The Midwest United standout is perhaps a little low on the ranking but she is on the radar for the Spring. Her highlight reel is on her instagram – what you will see there is the type of player who will rip the net off the goal with how hard she strikes the ball. She is very dangerous on set piece opportunities. She has good quality on the ball and does well with her body fakes to create space. Zoerhoff is a fun player to watch as she can take over the game in a moment.
