This article will look at the Boy’s District 6 matchup between Plano, the 2022 runners up, and a revitalized Lewisville side. Under the Friday night lights of Max Goldsmith stadium, Lewisville’s potent attack proved to be too much for the Wildcats of Plano. The match ended in a convincing 3-0 home victory for the Fighting Farmers.
Lewisville’s first goal came when senior center midfielder, Frank Rivas Frank Rivas M TX hammered home a loose ball from the six-yard box, giving the keeper no chance. Rivas is strong center midfielder who has the skill and foresight to play as a true no. 10, as well as the defensive and physical capabilities to be an effective no. 6. He played box to box, made several important tackles in the defensive third, and notched the first goal and a great assist.
Rivas threaded a ball through to senior striker DJ Koulai, who showed his seemingly innate ability to score with a beautiful left footed curler that he buried in the side netting. DJ’s forward runs are quick and varied in a way that makes it difficult for defenders to keep track of him. In the dying minutes of the first half, DJ got the ball on a great run down the right wing. He then picked out his pass “as cool as you like” to sophomore forward, Sebastian Coronado, who hammered the final nail into Plano’s coffin with a solid finish. Sebastian can use his height and body well to hold defenders off and keep possession. He is composed in front of goal and only needed one chance to get his name on the score sheet.
The Farmer’s Junior center back Jesus Barrios, is a big, strong, and vocal defender. His size makes him naturally good in the air, and he is often the one to come off the back line to win any first or second ball. Jesus’s communication at the back was constant; his guidance for his teammates proved he has a good understanding of when (and who needs) to step or drop.
While Plano did not get the result they were hoping for, they still had some players who stood out. Senior center midfielder, Aiden Ussery Aiden Ussery D TX was definitely a bright spot in the middle for the Wildcats. Aiden is a smart center midfielder, skilled with the ball at his feet, and has good vision to make decisive passes. He is a player who wants to be on the ball where he can help facilitate the attack, and looked to be their biggest threat going forward. Plano’s senior goalkeeper Harrison McClain made some big time saves that showed off his athleticism this game. Harrison has quick reactions and made several impressive kick-saves to keep his side in the match. The final score will show the three goals allowed, but without Harrison in the net it could have easily been more.
Also with a performance to note, was from the Wildcat defender Alec Rohleder. Alec and the rest of the back four were in for a long night against the Farmer’s forwards, but he was able to make some immense plays. He is fast player with a high motor who can accelerate and decelerate quickly. Alec has a lot of technical ability for a defender and can hit accurate passes and long balls, especially with the outside of his foot.
