Fort Bend Travis Lady Tigers
The Fort Bend Travis Lady Tigers from Richmond are part of the UIL’s DIvision 6A – Region 3, District 20. The program is still trying to establish itself as a force in the region and is yet to make it past the bi-district round in the playoffs. The Lady Travis have last made it to the playoffs in 2018-2019 and will have to wait for another season to make it happen again.
Players to Watch
Sydney Whitten
Sydney Whitten
Travis’ senior goalkeeper is one of the most important players on the team as she transmits a lot of stability with her play. She has good size and is very strong physically, using her athleticism to get to difficult balls and to come out of the goal line to stop opposing attackers very well. Whitten is also very safe when tested from distance, typically keeping good control of the ball and not allowing second chances. She’s got a really strong leg too and can send her goal kicks way upfield with good accuracy.
Ylanie Gachupin
Ylanie Gachupin
A versatile player who can be used as a center back or a defensive midfield, Gachupin adds a lot of grit to the Lady Tigers. A very strong defensive player despite her 5’4″ frame, she works hard to win the ball back and make several tackles. Gachupin has good positioning and is very fast, a combination that helps her when covering her teammates. She’s very clean on the ball too and is one of the team’s leaders on the field.
Alana Guzman
Alana Guzman
A junior, Guzman plays a big role in the midfield for the Lady Tiger and will be one of the key returning players next season. Very dynamic, she covers a lot of ground in the center of the field and is very involved with everything the team does. Guzman plays a big role in protecting Travis’ backline, but she also gets on the ball a lot when the team is in possession, connecting good passes and feeding the attacking players. She’s also very good with set pieces.
Emma Quintanilla
Emma Quintanilla
A freshman, Quintanilla is one of the players in the Lady Tigers’ roster with the most upside. Very strong technically, she circulates well in the middle and is very effective at retaining the ball by using her body to shield it from opponents. The midfielder also works well under pressure and in tight spaces and is capable of finding teammates with good passes. Quintanilla is also very effective on set pieces.
Gianna Jimenez
Gianna Jimenez
Typically Travis’ most advanced player on the field, Jimenez plays a big role for the team up top. The striker has good size and uses it well to receive long passes and shield the ball from her opponents. Jimenez has a good presence in the penalty box, but can also operate really well from a deeper position, using her pace and ball control to dribble in tight spaces and create room. She uses both feet well and is a very good finisher. One aspect of Jimenez’s game that’s perhaps overlooked is her ability to pressure defenders.
