Continue ReadingThe PrepSoccer Player Rankings for the Virginia Class of 2025 were updated on Wednesday. The rankings were released about months of scouting at high school and club events. Virginia’s updated rankings will be reflected in the national rankings to come in a couple of weeks. The new rankings added a number of players to the state list and also shuffled the order a bit among the top players.
Check out the scouting report on some of the top players from the class below.
The 2025 goalkeeper class in Virginia is stacked. Thornton is a 6-foot-2 shot-stopper. Her height will get a lot of attention, but I think it’s her footwork that is the star of the show. She is the best goalkeeper in this class at playing the ball with her feet and having comfort off her line. Thornton has the athleticism to make pretty much any save. Her recent highlights have been jaw-dropping good. Her game has come a long way in the past 12 months and there is no reason to doubt she will be a top prospect at the national level in the near future.
Bridges is our top ranked defender in the Virginia 2025 class, and she is one of the best in the country in the position. Dominant in the air, fast on the ground, strong in the tackle, Bridges offers it all for the position. She is tailor-made to be a standout at a top program at the next level. With elite attributes across the board, Bridges will be an early target for many programs in the region and country.
Defensive midfielder. An All-American who needs no introduction, Ahmad is going to have her choice of schools for the next level. She had a great campaign in the 06 age group in the ECNL this season. As a deep-lying playmaker, Ahmad has been quite a weapon for VA Union. Her passing and activity through the center of the field has been unmatched against her peers.
Townes is the top center forward in this group. She is a favorite among scouts. She offers a good target player with a strong frame. She can hold off defenders and has a willingness to battle in duels. The TSJ FC Virginia and US Youth National Team standout has some elements to her game remisicent of Trinity Rodman – and her versatility to play on the wing shows those similarities between the two player’s games. The long strides in the open field is really where she shines and it’s easy to see how that could translate to the next level. Townes would already be an impactful player against college-level talent given the opportunity. If she continues to hone her quality in front of the net and her decision-making in the final third, she should be considered for the professional pathway in the future.
Helfrich remains the top player in the state for this class. The ECNL standout was recently profiled as a top performer from the National Selection Game at ECNL NJ. There is a versatility to her game as she could be considered a forward or a midfielder. I believe she is an attacking midfielder in the future, but the possibility of a false 9 in the right system is perhaps just as a enticing. She has the cleanest technique among the players in this class. She rarely loses possession of the ball due to a bad touch – she can be knocked off the ball when she tries to do too much but her technique rarely lets her down. She is a smart player and a clever playmaker. She punishes defenses through a variety of ways – sharp passing, lethal finishes, and dazzling dribbling displays. She is an impactful player at the club level and has the high ceiling to reach the top level of the game.
