The early summer months featured events for every league across the country. From the scouting efforts at various events, PrepSoccer identified some of the new names to know from the 2025 class in California.
Connor is a defensive midfielder for SF Glens. He was a standout during the MLS Next postseason events. Tall, strong in the tackle, and a high work rate, Connor has the tools to be a immediate contributor at the Division I level. He has long legs and uses that as a key part of his game. With big strides, he covers a ton of ground. He is a good defender and does well in tackles in the open field. On the ball, he shows good vision and regularly provides key passes. He has the blueprint to be an excellent fit as a No. 6 for a top program.
Highlights
Badawiya had a standout performance in the MLS Next playoffs against FC United. The center midfielder scored twice in the game as he showed his quality against top competition. He is a skillful player who has spent a lot of time around a ball since his earliest days. He is an impactful player on the field as he can create the difference in the final third with his finishing and composure around the box.
The center back for Marin FC was one of the top players in the Boys ECNL playoffs at the 06 age group. At 6-3, the 2025 standout already has the frame of a college level player. He likes to keep the game in front of him as he tends to be the last option for his side. He reads the play and makes the right move to cut out the threat or organize his teammates around him. He is a physical defender when in the tackle. He is right-footed and has excellent technique in ball striking. Matthew Gray, the left back, was also a standout for Marin FC.
Axelson was previously a standout for his play at Dallas Cup. He continued to impress with another stellar showing at the Boys ECNL playoffs as one of the key pieces for Surf on the way to the National Championship. The right center back for the Surf 07 team is a player that most programs on the West Coast should already know. It’s easy to see how he could make an impact at the next level and San Diego Loyal has already identified him as a top prospect in the region, as he plays on the select team. His play during the Boys ECNL playoffs impressed with her composure on the ball as he never seemed to be rushed into a decision. He was confident on the ball and did well with his distribution. He had a couple of athletic tackles to stop chances. Axelson should be considered among the top targets from the center back position in this class.

Theo Ottosson Theo Ottosson F Harvard Westlake | 2025 CA is an attacking talent that had a stellar high school season that earned him a spot on the All-CIF team. He followed that up with a strong showing at the Boys ECNL playoffs. Ottosson lines up on the wing for his LA Breakers side. With a dynamic change of pace, Ottosson proved to be a difficult mark for outside backs during the event. He is a player that programs should be aware of from the 2025 class.
