Banks flashed all of his tools in this game and wasn’t really involved in any of the goal concessions. Banks showed his aptitude in aerial duels, his ball control in traffic, his vision down the pitch and accurate passing to all levels. He also showed great positioning on a dangerous transition moment where he was one on one and took away the far post which allowed the keeper to cover the near cost. He then stepped to the ball carrier at the precise moment. Switzerland played a very high and intense press all match and Banks was able to consistently beat it by finding the backside midfielder in pockets of space. Overall I have become a big fan of his game.
AM, Cruz Medina, San Jose Earthquakes
I liked the way Medina approached this match and I think he’s adjusted his approach since the Concacaf tournament. He is playing with a little more patience and poise and not forcing the issue. Medina scored the only goal and composed toe poke finish. Medina’s work rate was very good and I thought he showed good composure in the midfield.
WING, Nimfasha Berchimas Nimfasha Berchimas F NC , Charlotte FC
Berchimas was the most dangerous and consistent attacker in this match. He was brave in driving at defenders and succeeded with a decent amount of success. I also thought his pressing was commendable. Berchimas assisted on the United State’s only goal.
GK, Zack Campagnolo, Colorado Rapids
Campagnolo made a very critical mistake that led to a goal, but he also made a few very difficult and critical saves to keep the boys in the match. He had a great reaction save with a strong hand and another excellent save showing with his foot — showing coordination and flexibility. Those both came after the distribution mistake which showed me he could have a short memory, shake off the mistake and be resilient.
WING, Brian Romero Carmona, Charlotte FC
Romero Carmona had some decent moments in attack, though I thought he was too quick to cross on some occasions. What I really appreciated was his work in press and in his duels. He worked extremely hard and turned the ball over in some key areas to help spring transition attacks. With his work rate and pressing instincts, I can see what Gonzalo Segares likes having him in his squad.
