Berchimas is the youngest player on the U17 team as a U15 level player. He subbed on to the right-wing with about 20 minutes left in the match and the United States down 2-1 and struggling to get anything going offensively. The young winger scored two goals in a matter of minutes. The first off of a long ball from Pedro Soma where he cut back clinically on his left foot and hit a pure strike into the top left corner of the goal. The second off of a transition moment where he patiently weight in open space before driving a right-footed shot home. Berchimas is making the most of his opportunity and looks like he will be the youngest United States player to make a U17 World Cup since Freddy Adu.
CM, Taha Habroune, Columbus Crew
Habroune scored the first goal for the United States on a nice left-footed shot after a poor clearance found his feet. He did some good work to create space and delivered a clinical finish. Habroune showed quick feet and flashed quality moments progressive the ball through the midfield throughout the game. He also had some turnovers in dangerous spots, but his positives outweighed his negatives.
WING, Bryce Jamison, Orange County
Jamison was sneaky good and provided an element that this group has needed for a while: verticality. Jamison has an incredible engine and is relentless in the press and great at winning the ball back. He made well timed runs throughout the match to open space for the United States and he did pretty well maneuvering in tight spaces. He had a few great opportunities, but was not able to break through for a goal.
CB, Noahkai Banks, FC Augsburg
This was the first time I was able to scout Noahkai Banks and I left with a very good impression. Banks is physically very impressive with great size, strength and burst. He also showed great technique and bravery on the ball. Banks brings a profile that this team really needed, which is some physicality and dynamism from the backline.
DM, Pedro Soma, UE Cornella
Soma subbed on with Berchimas late in the second half and was placed as a center-back — not his natural position. Segares put him in to build from the back and help kick-start what was a struggling build up. The move proved to be a good one because Soma sprung Berchimas with a very well placed long-ball that put him in a one on one situation close to goal. Berchimas won the battle and scored the equalizer.
