The freshman group, 2027, had a couple of notable names at the event. And the 2028 class including some of the best in the country in that age group. Check out the standouts among the 2027 and 2028 classes below.
Top Freshman Performances
There’s a number of moments that standout from the event when talking about Beary, but the lasting memory might be her volunteering to play on the field when another player picked up an injury. Beary played on the wing. I wasn’t sure what to expect when the coach put her there, but she showed off some clean skills and great footwork. If her team ever needs a goal late, Beary might be the rare goalkeeper that could actually score with some last minute heroics. The situation is going to be pretty rare though. Beary faced dozens of shots between the drills and games on Sunday and she did not give up many goals – maybe only two goals conceded if my memory is correct. She frustrated the opposition at every turn. She’s a rare talent in the goalkeeper position.
Cook had her night cut short due to a tight hamstring, but she caught my eye during the shooting drills. She can hammer the ball with the best of them. I forgot she was a 2027 and then seeing the power she was hitting the ball with had me thinking she was close to graduating, not just starting her high school career. She’s got a bright future in the attack.
Scipio was a standout from our possession drills. Quick in thought and in movement, Scipio was one of the top performers on the day – and arguably the best from outside of the two big leagues. She is one to watch from this group.
Jolley is a midfielder who stood out from the play during the final game of the day. She was a key catalyst for her side and did well linking the lines and trying to create chances. Jolly is a midfielder with versatility and playmaking ability.
GG Szczuka had an outstanding day at the event. She was moved around a bit to cover for an injury and fit it in seamlessly with a new group because she is a willing defender who values possession of the ball. She had one of the best plays of the full-field game with an exquisite block on an attacker on a hard shot. Szczuka is a player that had coaches excited about her future.
Top 2028 Performances
Megan Rivera
Rivera chipped in with the opening assist of the event. The forward played on the wing and later told me that she normally plays as the No. 9. I was fooled because she looked outstanding at right wing while going against older competition. She found a way to utilize her best strengths in the
Piper Henry
Henry pops up on this list as the next in line from the talented family. Her older twin sisters were stars of the show on Sunday and Piper looks like she will be just as good if not better in the future. Listed as midfielder, I believe she played on the outside of the defense in the squad that ended up winning the full-field section of the event.
Londyn Foster
Foster was one of the top performers from the event. One of the youngest players there, Foster still looked like she could stand out against much older competition. She’s one of the best in the country in the 2028 class so it was good to see how she stacked up against some of the best in California. Foster was excellent in every portion of the day, but I was particularly impressed with her during the passing pattern drills. She hits an accurate pass over distance – and she can drive the ball or put backspin on it. Understanding the difference in those passes and when to use them is pretty advanced for her class – and rare for a defender. Foster combining that with her elite shutdown defensive skills makes her one of the best in the position in this class.
