Prep Soccer was following the match that ended with a 1-0 Albion victory thanks to a goal from forward Arantxa Varela Arantxa Varela F TX and here are the players who stood out in the derby:
Sydney Robinett
Sydney Robinett
Robinett had a solid performance against her former team, helping Albion sustain Challenge’s pressure and maintain the clean sheet. Although her team’s defenders and midfielders did a very good job in terms of limiting their opponents’ chances, Robinett still had to intervain on some occasions, handling long-distance shots and stepping up to collect long passes into the penalty box, and she did very well every time she was called upon. She was very calm and confident between the posts and played a big role in a solid defensive performance from Albion.
Avery Everson
Avery Everson
Everson made a strong partnership with fellow center back Emily Camp as the two were able to shut down the vast majority of Challenge’s attempts. She was very strong in the air, intercepting long passes and crosses, but also did a very good job in 1v1 plays – Challenge’s dangerous forward Olivia Knight was positioned on her side of the defense and she won most of the duels against her. Everson also displayed great calm on the ball, helping Albion’s buildup and finding good passes even when under pressure.
Molly Elder
Molly Elder
Another player who switched allegiances recently, going from Challenge to Albion, Elder played a big role in her team’s victory from her central midfield position. She was very involved with everything Albion did with the ball, getting the ball from the center backs and taking it upfield with her intelligent passing – Elder also had success with some of her runs through the middle. The midfielder also did a good job defensively, shielding the team’s backline and making several stops in the center of the field.
Keeley Klenke
Keeley Klenke
Klenke was very important for Albion, taking care of the left side of the field for her team. She split time between left back and left midfielder and was great at shutting down Challenge’s attempts from that side of the field, while also contributing to the team in possession. She provided great defensive support to the team’s backline but also had an important role with the ball, at times dropping back to help in the team’s buildup and on other occasions making quick runs forward through the flank, which often ended in dangerous crosses. A track student-athlete, she displayed great stamina and was very active during the entire time.

Playing as a left-sided center back, Tate did a fine job at Challenge’s backline. She was always well-positioned and managed to stop several Albion attempts, on most occasions using her size to deflect long passes and win individual duels. She’s a very skilled player on the ball, who can also play as a forward, and that showed when she had the ball. Tate connected good passes out of the back and helped Challenge break Albion’s pressure by making good decisions when in possession.
Fovargue covered a lot of ground in midfield and operated as a hub for Challenge both defensively and offensively. The defensive midfielder used her body extremely well to win the ball back and also to make turns and generate space when under pressure. She did a good job covering both flanks and also dropped closer to the center backs to assist in the team’s buildup. Fovargue played a very clean match in possession, connecting most of her passes and finding good solutions to plays.
Highlights
Olivia Knight
Olivia Knight
Playing in a wide position on the left, Knight was Challenge’s most dangerous offensive player in the match. She tried to use her pace to make things happen and, even defended at times by two Albion players, had some success on a few occasions. She was very good when working in tight spaces, using her dribbling ability to create space and make plays, and also had some good runs in open field. Knight played with a lot of energy and never gave up on plays, turning inaccurate passes that were sent her way into opportunities to pressure Albion’s defenders.
