Held from Thursday to Saturday, the three-day event will reunite as many as 64 teams from Houston and beyond. They will compete in eight brackets, hosted by high school programs in the ultra-competitive Katy ISD.
Prep Soccer will be following the action later in the week, but, between now and then, let’s take a look at some of the most promising prospects that will be on the field. Today we’ll list some of the talented outside backs that will be in action.
Danielle Sellier
Danielle Sellier
A senior with Foster, Sellier is very solid for the team playing at right back. She’s very conscious when in possession and knows what to do in every situation, helping the team create chances and rarely turning the ball over. Sellier is well-versed offensively, being able to take the ball to the end line to make crosses or to bring it inside to initiate combination plays or attempt long-distance shots. A solid defensive player, she can also play on the left or in midfield.
Lanie Junek
Lanie Junek
A freshman, Junek has the ability to contribute to A&M Consolidated in her first season with the team. Typically used on the left of the team’s backline, she’s very solid defensively and is capable of shutting down even the most dangerous wingers. Junek understands space very well and is very smart with her actions to close passing lanes and keep forwards away from the penalty box. A right-footed player, she also contributes in possession, helping her team circulate the ball and find space to hurt opponents.
Tamir Shaw
Tamir Shaw
Shaw’s presence at right back makes her team Kingwood stronger. She plays with a great deal of intensity and has the energy and determination to run the field up and down the entire time, giving her team an important outlet. Shaw is very skilled and intelligent with the ball and has good vision to connect passes and keep her team moving. She’s also very strong in 1v1 defensive duels and does a very good job with her positioning. Shaw can also play as a midfielder or as a wingback.
An offensive-minded left back, Delgado is one of the main attacking weapons of her team Atascocita – because of her skills on the ball she’s often used as a winger. She’s very aggressive when in possession, getting on the ball and attempting to beat opponents off the dribble. Even if she can’t get to the end line, she’s still capable of sending accurate crosses into the penalty box. Delgado is also very quick and intelligent and often brings the ball inside, from where she can attempt long-distance shots or try to find key passes in the attacking third.
Vivian Purvis
Vivian Purvis
Purvis typically plays on the right side of Cy Wood’s backline and her main strengths are on the defensive side of the game. She’s very determined and reads the game well, often getting in good spots to dismantle offensive action. Purvis is also tall and physical and does a very good job of tucking inside to help her team defend crosses from wider positions – she also does a very good job as a right-sided center back on a back three. When on the ball, she uses her body well to shield it and can connect quick, smart passes.
