She can play with her back to the goal. She could improve on this aspect as well. She plays a bit small with her arms down and doesn't use her full frame. Her footwork is excellence. She's a dynamic two-way winger who does well in 1v1 situations. She is good on either foot and plays with a confidence that gives her the belief she will always win the 1v1 against the outside back. Beer could improve on her defensive posture. She has a tendency to close space too quickly and overrun the ball at times. Her athleticism is a point to highlight from her scouting profile. She moves laterally really well and does well in covering crosses and shots off of crosses. Matthews is very good at pouncing on the ball and making quick decisions, perhaps an underrated characteristic of goalkeepers. She is also good at diving saves - her impressive technique shows in these situations. From games this season, her organization of the defense and her confidence off the line shined. She is right footed and pretty good with distribution. She is a good shot-stopper but there is some room for improving in that aspect of her game. Her reaction time and agility on close shots is especially impressive.
