Prep Soccer will be following several of the matches taking place in the Houston area and reporting on them, highlighting the Top Performers and sharing photos of the encounters. On Friday, February 23, we were in Richmond, following the duel between the top two teams in District 20, the George Ranch Longhorns and the Ridge Point Panthers.
After a scoreless tie in the first half, Ridge Point were more effective in the second half and scored with Dayo Tennyson, Camryn LeTellier Camryn LeTellier 5'6" | M Ridge Point | 2025 TX and Sadie Bird to take the 3-0 road win and continue undefeated in first place in the standings.
These players had great performances in the encounter:
An outside back in her first two seasons with the Panthers, Vaughn played on the right side of the team’s back three against George Ranch and was one of the best players on the field. She adjusted well to the new role and was very solid defensively, winning duels in the backline and stopping offensive attempts. Vaughn was also extremely vocal, communicating with her teammates and keeping things organized at the back. The center back got on the ball a lot when the Panthers had possession and had a big role in the team’s buildup with her accurate passing, while also making some nice runs with the ball.
Playing in the middle of Ridge Point’s back three, Dedmon also had a very strong performance against George Ranch, helping her team get the clean sheet. She had great chemistry with fellow center backs Kelsey Vaughn Kelsey Vaughn D Ridge Point | 2025 TX and Allison Wilson and, as the most athletic of the three, was typically the one with the freedom to step up and chase opponents in the attacking half, a task she performed with great efficiency because of her ability to put pressure on opponents. Dedmon man-marked George Ranch’s striker Kacey Ehlen in portions of the match and did a very good job of keeping her away from the penalty box.
Emma Lovell
Emma Lovell
Lovell spent most of the match at right wingback and was very active on the right side of the field. She timed her runs very well and consistently managed to get into good spots around the penalty box, offering a good passing option to her teammates. Lovell also performed her defensive duties very well, doing a good job at stopping George Ranch’s winger Jessica Moffett. The junior also contributed with her versatility, spending time at right winger and central midfielder, where she impacted the game with her passing.
Kylie Harris Kylie Harris M TX

Harris formed a strong midfield duo with Gracie Gammons and the two had big roles in the Panthers’ dominant victory. They covered a lot of ground in midfield and kept Ridge Point on the front foot the entire time as they put a lot of pressure on George Ranch when they had the ball, quickly winning it back and initiating new offensive actions. Harris was also very productive on the ball, connecting good passes from her central midfield position and making some strong runs. She played with great intensity during the entire match and did a good job with set pieces too.
LeTellier was Ridge Point’s most dangerous player in the match, getting involved in most of the team’s offensive plays. She played with a lot of freedom up top and used it well to find spots to get on the ball and make plays. LeTellier combined very well with striker Dayo Tennyson and worked extremely well as a facilitator, dropping a little bit deeper to get the ball and finding the team’s wide players with through balls and passes over the top of defenders. She scored the team’s second goal with a banger from just inside the penalty box that went into the upper corner and fired some other dangerous shots during the match.
Highlights
Mackenzie Smith
Mackenzie Smith
George Ranch’s senior goalkeeper conceded three goals, but she wasn’t to blame for any of them and made good saves throughout the match, avoiding a defeat by a wider margin. Smith was very solid in the first half, denying Ridge Point their first goal on several occasions with good saves. The Panthers largely dominated possession, keeping the goalkeeper under pressure for the vast majority of the match, but she handled it well. Smith also did a good job with her goal kicks, helping her team bypass Ridge Point’s high press with long and accurate passes.
Claire Brian
Claire Brian
Brian was one of just a few George Ranch players who managed to match Ridge Point’s intensity level during the entire match. She was very active in midfield, especially on the defensive side of the game, and covered a lot of ground. Brian didn’t have an easy task defending multiple talented players in the middle, but she did a very good job of remaining patient and waiting for a good opportunity, such as a heavy first touch or an inaccurate pass, to step up and make a strong play to win the ball. She also did a solid job with her passing, playing it safe and finding her teammates.
Kacey Ehlen
Kacey Ehlen
With the ball remaining in George Ranch’s defensive half for the vast majority of the match, Ehlen didn’t have much of a chance to impact the game, but she did fairly well with what she got. The Longhorns sent a lot of long passes her way and, even at times defended by two players, she managed to get on the end of most of them. Ehlen moved well off the ball and found good spots to combine with her teammates, at times beating Ridge Point’s defenders with intelligent, one-time passes. She didn’t have a good opportunity to score, but at least managed to help her team progress the ball on the field.
