Zapata has been one of the top forwards in Delaware for a few years now. She’ll lead the front line of Smyrna one last season. The Villanova commit is good at holding the ball up, has great footwork and a knack for finding the back of the net even drawing the amount of attention she draws game after game from opposing defenses.
Gabby Riley
Gabby Riley
Riley put on a show leading Middletown to the Division 1 state championship last June with a 4-2 win over crosstown rivals Appoquinimink. While it was her goals that were most memorable, the University of Delaware commit does so much well on the field and is such a great competitor and leader she doesn’t have to score big goals to make a noticeable impact.
Phillips was instrumental in helping lead Saint Mark’s to a state final they’ll want to forget last season. Dynamic on the ball with great vision, she will again be the engine in her high school team’s attack much like she is on the club side with Penn Fusion.
Lillian O’Brien
Lillian O’Brien
O’Brien is a central midfielder who is good with both feet both on the ball and in finding teammates as a deeper lying playmaker. She’ll be a key player in setting the tone for Caravel this season as her coverage defensively and passing give attacking players more opportunities to do damage in the final third.
Halle Geiger
Halle Geiger
Geiger is a commanding presence in the box and has some decent shot-blocking skills to go with it.
Cecilia DiPrinzio
Cecilia DiPrinzio
I’m still surprised seeing DiPrinzio’s grade listed as 9th heading into the new season. She was really impressive playing as an outside back last season. Her ability to get forward and cross the ball into dangerous spots really aided in the attack and her physicality on the defensive end despite her youth was also on display.
Haley Schleeweis
Haley Schleeweis
Archmere lost the top player in the state and a number of other key players since last year’s state title run but there are a number of players waiting in the wings to be the vocal point of the attack. Schleeweis is one I’m intrigued to see this season as a crafty midfielder who can create off the ball but also has some bite in her finishing.
