On the day the Central PA club posted four 2-1 wins along with a scoreless draw and a 2-2 draw in the 2010 and 2011 games.
Below is a look at some players for both Keystone FC and Sporting AC who stood out in what I saw of the 2007 and 2008 matches.
Maria Scherr
Maria Scherr
Scherr was a real handful for Sporting AC to defend and while she didn’t get on the score sheet on the day she showed a lot of qualities as a No. 9 with her ability to hold the ball, defend and play with her back to goal.
Sierra Henry
Sierra Henry
Henry’s counter-pressing was outstanding on the day as she created a number of second chance opportunities winning the ball back in dangerous spots and her vision to find teammates in transition was also pretty sharp. She’s an exciting player to watch cook on the field.
Hood was practically everywhere on the day cutting down opportunities with timely challenges and wins. She also nearly found a goal on a well-taken curling effort on a run forward that just missed left of the goal. Whether she’s playing on the back line or dropping into midfield, Hood is an extremely reliable defender with the ability to choose times to be dangerous going forward as well.
Highlights
Taelyn Townsend
Taelyn Townsend
Sporting AC didn’t real have an answer to Townsend’s pace and presence in the final third in the 2007 game. She was on the score sheet and involved in countless other promising chances on the day.
Serena Sherman
Serena Sherman
Sherman was a calming presence on the back line for Keystone in the 2007 game both in 1v1 situations and on building play from the back.
Avery Gorsegner
Avery Gorsegner
Gorsegner was the hero of the 2008 game, delivering a late winner on a well struck ball off a clearance from a corner kick. She was also very active on the day on both sides of the ball, pestering Sporting AC players and creating opportunities going the other way.
