This week is somewhat of a slow one, with several regions of the Lone Star State having their spring back, but some exciting matches are still taking place.
Prep Soccer has been following the action closely, covering multiple matches every week and reporting on the players having big roles with their teams and helping them succeed. As part of our coverage, we will also preview some matches we believe have the potential to be highly exciting and here is our pick for Tuesday, March 12:
Willis vs. The Woodlands – 7:30 @ Willis HS
Willis
The Wildkats are currently in fifth place in District 13, with a campaign of five wins, six losses and three ties – they scored 26 goals and conceded 22. Their overall season record shows eight wins, ten losses and four ties. The team had found its best rhythm near the end of the regular season, having collected ten points in their last five matches, with three wins, one tie and one loss.
Freshman Milena Munaretto has immediately won the starting spot at goalkeeper and has been solid for the team, with five clean sheets in district matches. Senior Olga Barcenas is the anchor of the team’s backline, controlling the central area of the field alongside fellow seniors Jordan Montgomery and Presley McDonald. Capable of playing multiple positions, senior Georgia Paugh brings a lot of energy to the field. Much of Willis’ offensive production comes from talented junior midfielders Chelsea-Mentado Perez and Summer Clark, who are both excellent at creating and finishing chances.
The Woodlands
The Highlanders are at the top of District 13 with 13 wins, one loss and one tie and are set to successfully defend the district title they claimed last year. They have a whopping 75 goals scored and just eight conceded in district play this season. The Woodlands outscored their opponents by 22-1 in their last three matches to get wins in each of them and have a 14-6-2 win record for the season.
Junior Patty Staton Patty Staton GK TX is the team’s starting goalkeeper and is one of the best in the region. The Highlanders have plenty of options at center back, including senior captains Gillian Wilson Gillian Wilson D TX and Savannah Knight Savannah Knight D TX and left-footed junior Lauren Koehler Lauren Koehler D State TX , while another senior, Megan Orr, provides stability at outside back. In midfield, juniors Renata Larracilla Renata Larracilla M The Woodlands | 2025 TX and Alejandra Campos are both extremely creative and technical. The Woodlands have no shortage of talented forwards either, with senior Freya Hayes, sophomore Carolina Krosnyak Carolina Krosnyak F State #44 Nation TX and freshman Lexi Baker standing out among them.
