There will be plenty of exciting matches going on around the Lone Star State over the next three weeks and Prep Soccer will preview some of them. The area round is the next phase of the postseason, with matches taking place from March 28-30, and here’s one to watch:
Tomball Memorial vs. Grand Oaks – March 28 – 7:30 PM – @ Tomball ISD Stadium
Tomball Memorial
The Lady Wildcats advanced to the playoffs as the top team in District 15 with 11 wins, two losses and one tie. In the first round of the playoffs, they topped Langham Creek 4-1 to move forward. Tomball Memorial have 15 wins, three losses and two ties for the season, with 84 goals scored and 11 conceded.
Senior Natasha Stramrood Natasha Stramrood GK Tomball Memorial (TX) | 2024 State TX has been the team’s starting goalkeeper this season. The backline in front of her has two players who are originally attackers playing outside back in freshman Calla Reef Calla Reef 5'4" | F Tomball Memorial | 2027 TX and sophomore Rylee Carnes Rylee Carnes 5'4" | D Tomball Memorial | 2026 TX and senior Ava Baird in central defense. There’s no shortage of options in midfield with freshman Amelya Boedecker, sophomore Molly Elder, junior Lily Owen Lily Owen 5'4" | M Tomball Memorial | 2025 TX and senior Lily Brown all being viable starting options. Senior Brianna Carrigan Brianna Carrigan F State TX is the team’s striker, having fellow senior Emily Sydnor and junior Allie Barker in the wings.
Grand Oaks
The Lady Grizzlies were third in District 13 with a campaign of 11 wins, three losses and two ties. They overcame the bi-district round in a convincing way, dominating Aldine to a 7-0 win. Considering the entire season, Grand Oaks have 15 wins, three losses and five ties, with 51 goals for and 14 against.
Sophomore Camryn Cumbie has been a revelation in goal in her first season in varsity. Grand Oaks has two excellent freshmen in their backline, with Kailey Aguirre Kailey Aguirre D Grand Oaks | 2027 TX playing outside back and Emma Harrell Emma Harrell D TX stepping up on central defense. One of the team’s captains, senior Jorja Bragg (ten goals, three assists) plays a big role in midfield, alongside freshman Kamryn Myers Kamryn Myers M TX . Grand Oaks’ offense has a lot of talent, with freshman Johanna Diaz Johanna Diaz M TX having registered 14 goals, fellow freshman Sophia Georgas six and senior Lauren Kaufman three.
