Continue ReadingThe ECNL Boys League hosted a national event last weekend in Round Rock reuniting 90 teams in the 16s and 17s age groups for three days of action.
Prep Soccer Texas covered the first two days of the event, following several teams from the Lone Star State as they took the field against opponents from other states and provided daily coverage with photos and a report on the individual standouts of the day.
Now with the event over, we’ll take a little bit of a deeper dive and feature the positional standouts in the 17s division, this time looking at the outside backs:
Bryce Tober
Bryce Tober
Tober played left back for the SAFC team that ended up dropping all three matches they played over the weekend. He displayed a solid game on both sides of the ball and emerged as one of the most promising prospects in his team. Tober’s defensive game is built around his reading of the game as on several occasions he was able to anticipate plays and make interceptions with simple actions. The left back’s distribution was also very efficient as he was accurate with his long passes, hitting several diagonals with his preferred right foot. Tober also displayed good quality going forward as she engaged in combination plays that took him to the end line and was precise when crossing the ball.
Christopher Negrescu
Christopher Negrescu
Negrescu was the right back of the FC Dallas White team that had one win and two losses in Round Rock. A tall and athletic player, he performed with great intensity on both sides of the game. Negrescu was very quick and explosive to get forward, making some interesting runs down the right while also connecting well with the winger on his side. He used his body well to defend the space on the right and was very difficult to get by with his aggressive defending and his willingness to get back and try again when he was beaten.

Carson played right back for DKSC and was one of the standouts in the team that triumphed in all three matches played over the weekend. He had an interesting tactical role with the team as, while he defended on the right, he would come inside on most plays when the team had possession. Carson was very smooth on the ball and was very impressive when dribbling the ball in traffic, getting by defenders with ease. He not only shielded the ball well, maintaining possession at all times, but also disorganized the opposing defensive system with his moves, helping create chances. Defensively, he played with good energy and did a good job of putting pressure on opponents and forcing them back.
Ethan Roemisch
Ethan Roemisch
Playing opposite to Carson on the left, Roemisch was equally important for DKSC over the weekend. A very technical player, he also came inside when in possession, making a huge impact with his passing and playing a big role in the team’s buildup. Used to play as a forward, Roemisch displayed great offensive instincts and made some smart runs into the penalty box to finish chances when plays developed on the right. The left back displayed good ability to finish from distance and, because of his size, was an interesting target in crosses and set pieces.
Alexis Muniz
Alexis Muniz
Muniz was very active at left back for HTX and helped the team end the event with two wins and one loss. A very technical player, he didn’t limit himself to the left side of the field, often coming inside to help create chances and finish from outside the penalty box. Muniz also used his ability to hit the ball to create chances in dead-ball situations, sending good crosses into the penalty box from corner kicks and free kicks. He did a fine job defensively too, staying high and trying to anticipate plays and intercept passes in behind.
Keshavarzi contributed to his Albion Hurricanes FC team that got two wins and one loss in Round Rock with his energy and versatility. He spent time at both outside back spots and did a good job, especially on the defensive side of the game. A tall and athletic player, he used his physical tools to disrupt plays and cover space, also coming inside the penalty box to help defend from crosses when he sensed an opportunity. Keshavarzi was always very efficient in possession, using his pace and strength to push the ball forward and making good decisions with the ball.
