Evans started out in Virginia, playing club soccer there from ages six to 13 for Loudoun Soccer Club in Leesburg, VA. However, before going into eighth grade, Evans moved to France, where her mom’s job took the family. They moved near Paris, and she started attending the American School of Paris in St. Cloud. In 2021, as an eighth grader, she played on ASP’s co-ed team, then in 2022 in her freshman year, she made the varsity team. In her second year, in 2023, she was chosen as a captain.
Over those two varsity seasons, Evans has played in four different countries, playing in England, Belgium, Germany and Austria. At the end of the season International Schools Sports Tournament, the team traveled to Vienna and placed first, going unbeaten in five matches. Evans had three goals and an assist in that tournament.
During the club season, Evans plays for a club called ES-16, playing for the U18 team. She was invited to try out for the French national team, but because of her heritage and the fact she is only a resident, she would not be eligible. However, the invite speaks to her ability as a player and how hard she’s worked since a young age.
“Football has always been a huge part of my life, so we definitely worked to find the right experiences to keep that going abroad,” Evans said. “I’ve played on coed teams, US Embassy pick-up matches with the Marine Security Guards and attended Chelsea FC’s residential camp. It’s been super diverse as far as traditional football goes and I’ve really enjoyed it.”
Evans has shown herself to be a determined, tenacious and versatile player, as she is a midfielder that is pretty comfortable anywhere in the middle of the pitch. She’s very aware, which helps her facilitate the action, and she’s agile which allows her to push forward and make people miss.
Evans has enjoyed her time living in Paris, but is moving back to the US this summer. As much as it will be hard to leave Paris, she is excited to see old friends, to attend ID camps, to visit campuses and to feel more comfortable with the language. However, the language barrier was not a problem for her on the pitch.
“As a player, having played as a non-native speaker on French teams for three years, I have learned that the language of football is universal,” Evans said. “Once we step on the pitch, it doesn’t really matter what words we choose or what language we are speaking as long as we are vocal and understand the game.”
