In addition to the 28 state champions that will be crowned, the event is a chance to see some top players and teams that aren’t in the MLS Next or ECNL leagues.
Here’s a look at some players in the U15-17 age range (U18-U19 NCS finals are played in early June) to keep an eye on in Saturday’s finals.
Billy Burke
Billy Burke
Burke is the first player that comes to mind in terms of potential impact in the state finals because it was his two PK saves last year that sealed the state cup victory win for his side over Lower Merion SC. They’ll prefer not to get it that far but Burke is the guy you want should it come to that. FC Delco has a potent attack so Burke will need to be at his best.
Ishmael Kromah
Ishmael Kromah
Kromah is a strong and quick attacking player who is a weapon both in his pressure on the ball and in creating opportunities going forward. He’s also the captain and leads by example with his work rate and passion. He has weapons around him to spread the ball but he should be a key factor in the match.
Zac Levin
Zac Levin
If things are cooking for Keystone, Levin is usually at the center of it, twisting and turning in the midfield, creating off the ball and breaking down defenses going forward.
Shawn Street
Shawn Street
Quaker Elite has a number of players from Philadelphia Catholic League schools with promise. Street’s versatility to play multiple positions and ability to do many things well make him one of the standouts on the Magicians and means he’ll be one of the key players tasked with limiting the YMS Premier Warriors, who have the ability and tendency to get into shootouts with teams.
Johnny Pawlowski
Johnny Pawlowski
Pawlowski will be a problem for Quaker Elite to try and solve. He’s got a great left foot, can score from pretty much anywhere and can ping the ball around to set up teammates. YMS played a barnburner of an overtime thriller last year in a loss they’ll look to avenge with the help of Pawlowski and co.
Michael Hoy
Michael Hoy
Hoy isn’t the most intimidating of goalkeepers when you look at him, but he has a knack for making big saves and is incredibly mobile covering his goal. Keystone will have a fight on their hands and it could go the distance, which would make Hoy’s shot-stopping ability all the more vital.
