Day 2 in Nashville saw the temperatures rise as well as tempers and the MLS Next Cups out of their trophy cases to be put on display now that all the age group participating have reached the Quarterfinal stage. For the U17's this meant one final chance to shine with the coaches and scouts from around the country locked in on them. Here's our first group who stood out:

Aguilar put in a quality performance against Tampa Bay United, orchestrating the potent LAFC attack all match with his incisive passing and forward thinking play. He consistently broke lines and found his wide players to get LAFC forward, and was an integral part of stopping counters when his side would lose possession. He rounded out a great performance with tucking his teams' first goal home from the spot, sending one of the goalkeepers of the tournament the wrong way.

Harris showed out as a player who will take his opportunities when presented and take them well. He was a regular winner of 1v1 challenges, often standing up attackers and forcing them to either go the opposite direction or lose possession entirely. His covering play was exceptional for his center backs, and he stopped two counters from progressing past halfway so his teammates could reclaim their positions. Additionally his passing and touch stood out as he helped guide his team up field on the wing.

Bernstein was instrumental in Union's Quarterfinal win over Vancouver, putting in crosses and combinations along the wing to start the match, and then later shifting more centrally when Union went down to 10 men to help command the center of the pitch. He was involved in Union's first goal, with his corralling of the ball from his chest down to his oncoming teammate setting the stage for the score merely a few seconds later.

Atkinson stood strong and commanded his team to victory in Union's Quarterfinal, even with being a man down for over 50 minutes. He made two crucial saves to keep the scoreline from getting worse when Union was down a goal, and then saw out every Whitecaps effort from that point en route to victory. His skills were on display, with quality distribution and communication throughout the match, never putting a foot wrong or putting his team in danger.

Spady broke into the match and tore into the opposition with his speed and willingness to go directly at defenders. His pace with the ball was unmatched during the game, and his closing ability earned him a strikers dream goal, stealing the ball off the goalkeepers boot as he made to clear it and tap it into an empty net. This pulled his team within one and his energy surely boosted his side from that point on.
