Prep Soccer Texas was there following matches of the 17s and 16s divisions on the first two days of action. We've already highlighted some of the players who had strong performances in the matches we got to watch, so now we'll expand it a little bit more, splitting the standouts by division and position. We covered the 17s division last week and are looking into the 16s now, this time featuring the outside backs:

Castro played left back for the Classics Elite RL 08 team that got one win and two losses during the event. She was a big part of the team's game with her ability to connect good passes out of the back and her calm in possession. Castro was excellent with long passes, igniting several transition plays immediately after she won the ball, and supported the team's offense by tucking inside and operating as an additional playmaker in midfield. She also did great defensive work for the team, winning duels with solidness and using her positioning to block runs and passes on her side of the field.

Trinidad was with the DKSC RL 08 team that went undefeated in College Station, getting two wins and a tie. She was mostly used on the right, but displayed good versatility, moving to the left when needed and doing a solid job there. Trinidad made a really strong impression with her defensive skills as she covered her area of the field with great efficiency, handling 1v1 situations well and keeping opponents around her under control. Offensively, she was important with her passing ability and vision, contributing to the team's buildup.

St. John and her Albion Hurricanes FC RL 08 team got a pair of wins and a tie in their matches at the Texas Shootout. She was mostly used on the left, but also spent some time on the right, producing well. With Albion using a back three, St. John had a lot of freedom to push forward and she took full advantage of it to consistently offer a passing option to her teammates. With her pace and ability to dribble the ball, she created some dangerous plays in wider positions, but also spent some time playing as a forward, more centrally, and did a good job of going at defenders.

Barefoot's team Lonestar SC Red 08 GA dropped both matches over the weekend, but battled against tough opponents. The left back played a big role for them, getting involved in the game a lot and having a high success rate in her actions. Barefoot used her size well on defense, winning physical duels and intercepting long passes aiming the space behind her back with ease. She also displayed good quality going forward, getting to the final third in no time and using her ball control to beat defenders and make plays. A right-footed player, she was dangerous when she brought the ball inside to pass and finish.

Crawford and her FC Dallas RL 08 team had good showings in College Station, winning both matches they played in the showcase. The right back was a staple for them, playing with great efficiency and contributing on both sides of the ball. Crawford was very solid defensively, winning most of the duels she was involved in and reading the game well to come inside and help the center backs when they needed it. She was also very skilled with the ball and made excellent decisions offensively. Crawford hit good direct passes to the winger in front of her but also joined the attack when she had a chance, at times even showing up inside the penalty box to finish plays.
