There are some supremely talented midfielders from Northern California who are committed to Division I power programs. Here are five we can take a look at today.

[player_tooltip player_id='19744' first='Laila' last='Edris'], Midfielder, MVLA

Edris heads into her senior year at Mountain View High as a UCLA commit and has been committed to the Bruins for a while now. The MVLA midfielder is a very agile and crafty player who can use the dribble to break down a defense. With great quickness and agility, she can change pace and direction quickly. She draws a lot of attention, and once doing so she plays a precise ball to the right spot, and really opens up a defense. She is strong with both feet and has a great shot from range.

[player_tooltip player_id='54222' first='Noe' last='Johnson'], Attacking Midfielder, Lamorinda

Johnson enters her senior year at Head-Royce in Oakland committed to Stanford and spent the 2023/24 club season showing exactly why. She is an athletic player, with good size and long levers as she moves gracefully and easily on the pitch. She does not appear to be as fast as she is because she moves with such ease, but the next thing you know, she's past the defenders. Her strengths as a No. 10 include her ability to create, for sure, but she is a fantastic goal-scorer and makes excellent and well-timed runs. She's very good about laying off the ball and then continuing her run and getting in behind. She finishes clinically with either foot.

[player_tooltip player_id='54275' first='Raya' last='Leikin'], Midfielder, MVLA

Leikin is a versatile player, who is committed to Cornell. The Marin Academy rising senior can play as a No. 10 or No. 8 and has also featured as a No. 7. She is very good in tight spaces when operating in the midfield, taking on defenders, working in and out of traffic despite being surrounded as she shows top notch foot skills. She has a nose for goal and creates for herself quite well, often times finishing from range or a tight angle and she has the ability to play a clever ball into the area or to a wide area where an attacker can be dangerous.

[player_tooltip player_id='54243' first='Avery' last='Standish'], Midfielder, Mustang SC

Standish is a true ball-hawking midfielder who is heading to UC Santa Barbara. She is entering her final year at Monte Vista High. Wherever the ball is, you will find Standish making a challenge or winning a 50/50 ball. Standish covers so much ground as she has license to go where she wants, but she does not compromise her team because of her work rate. She possesses all the skills you want out of a midfielder as she tracks back, she can carry the ball forward, she shows great decisiveness and vision as well as the ability to finish.

[player_tooltip player_id='20043' first='Paige' last='Thompson'], Midfielder, MVLA

Forget what you thought about defensive midfielders because Thompson is not the No. 6 that people my age grew up watching. Instead of the plodding No. 6 who operates in a tiny area, Thompson is dynamic, explosive and dangerous. She also plays plenty at the No. 10 spot as well for both her club, MVLA, and her school, Las Lomas. She is a special talent who is heading to Alabama, and has been much ballyhooed since she was a freshman. She is very, very explosive, very in control of her body and movements as she can carry the ball one way and then fire a cross or a shot on goal in the other direction despite her momentum carrying her away. She is dangerous and spot kicks, free kicks and corners as she is deadly accurate.
