STOCK UP: Eight 2028s from California on the rise after HS season

Prior to the release of the new ranking, check out the players who are on the rise following the high school season.     Carr had a stellar season for Newbury Park and earned a spot on the VC Star County Team of the Year. The five-foot-11 center back has solidified her place as one of the best defenders in Southern California in the 2028 class. She is one of the tallest, and she uses her height on the field. She is dominant in aerial duels. She can matchup against any style of forward. She's excellent at using her body to shield players off the ball. Carr has shown her elite defensive qualities this season and deserves the spotlight as one of the best in her roles in this class.     Hanna is a forward from So Cal Blues and JSerra. She was highlighted in the Fall for her strong start to the club season. She has continued that stellar run at the high school level. She's right footed and can play on the wing or attacking midfielder. She is an excellent finisher for her role. She has lightning quick feet, a good first touch, and the ability to get a shot off even with a defender on her hip. Hanna has elevated her game this season and she should be a breakout candidate for upcoming ECNL events.     Neves is a defensive midfielder who has been highlighted previously for her play with her club team, Slammers HB Koge 2010. She was recently awarded honors for her sophomore season with Santa Margarita. She is the conductor of her teams. She reads the game exceptionally well and seems to always be in the right spot. She makes great decisions on the ball and progresses the ball up the field with her sharp, accurate passing. Neves continues to impress as a top midfielder for her skill and smarts.     Condon is a defender from Santa Margarita who was one of the top sophomores from California during the season. She plays center back for school and club. She can play either right or left center back. She is right footed, but can play off either foot. She is comfortable on the ball and never seems to rush her decisions. Condon is a super smart defender who reads forwards and shuts them down consistently with her approach. Her play with Slammers HB Koge 09 ECNL has been incredibly as well especially against the top-tier talent from the club league as well.     Devine continued her impressive season with a breakout sophomore showing with Edison. The forward was named to the OC Register Second Team All-County. Devine was also highlighted as one of the best from the Girls Academy Winter Showcase back in December. The winger was a key part of a successful campaign for Edison. She's a speedy player who can create her own chances with her pressure and intensity. She is difficult to stop in the open field and an efficient finisher. Devine is one of the best in the Girls Academy and should have the opportunity to show that during the upcoming showcase events.     Maroney is a center back from [program_tooltip program_id='283476' first='Slammers' last='FC'] 09. She was a star for her club during the summer club events last year. She's been even better in 2025/2026. Her play for Edison earned a spot on the OC Register All-Orange County Second Team. She's a five-foot-11, right footed defender who can do it all. She's fiercely competitive and thrives in any environment that presents her with a challenge. Maroney gave up volleyball last year to focus on soccer, which has made her a more complete player at center back. She is a two-way impact player who is among the best individual defenders and strikes the bal so well that she takes free kicks (for both club and high school). She is likely going to be a top recruit for many coaches as she offers a lot of intangibles that are pretty rare even from the talent-rich area of Southern California.     Crossett was a breakout star in the Trinity League for her Santa Margarita side. She plays her club soccer for San Diego Surf. The five-foot-10 goalkeeper with a 4.11 GPA is one of the best in her position in the state. She has the physical attributes to step into the goal at the college level immediately. She's been well coached. Her technique on diving saves and her preparation before the shot at both excellent. Crossett is one of those goalkeepers who can shift the outcome of the game with her shot-stopping ability.     Dunn was named the 2026 CIF Los Angeles City Section Player of the Year as a sophomore for her stellar season with Cleveland. The young standout emerged as a leader for her high school in only her second campaign. She is a versatile player who can play a number of roles, but it's hard to deny her impact and dominance as a center back for both club and school over the past year. Dunn has really put an impressive season together during 2025/2026 that should catch the eye of scouts. She's an excellent defender who shines in 1v1 duels. She is an asset on the ball and an excellent passer. Dunn is emerging at the right time and should be a top player to scout during upcoming events.
