Whether you play as an attacking midfielder, sit in the middle of the pitch or are back in a holding position, midfielders with technical ability are in demand regardless of what level of the pitch they play at. These five midfielders from Texas are showing us how true that is as they play in different areas, but the one constant is they are excellent when on the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='112555' first='Brady' last='Burtnett'], Defensive Midfielder, Sting Royal, Class of 2027

Burtnett is a fierce No. 6 who is a key player for her Sting Royal 2009 ECNL team. She also plays at Southlake Carroll High, a team with a history of being one of the best in the country. One thing that Burtnett does well is she tracks the ball well in the air. She tracks it well, she wins aerial duals, but she doesn't just head the ball to nowhere as she is able to head the ball down to the feet of a teammate, which helps her team gain possession and transition. She also moves the ball well from her No. 6 spot, moving it with calm, poise and accuracy. She makes herself available very well and then uses good vision to facilitate. She's very tough on the defensive end, locking up opposing attackers and one thing she does particularly well is she fills passing lanes and doesn't allow a played ball to get through.

[player_tooltip player_id='225388' first='Grace' last='Furlong'], Defensive Midfielder/Attacking Midfielder, Dallas Texans, Class of 2026

On the offensive end, she shows great technical skills and the ability to use either foot. She likes to get out and run and can score goals, she switches feet and direction quickly and can get a shot off, with power. She shows good vision and passing ability, and the ability to sit back and facilitate in addition to acting as a bridge between the back line and the midfield when she's sitting deeper.

[player_tooltip player_id='162331' first='Andie' last='Patterson'], Central Midfielder, Albion Hurricanes FC, Class of 2027

Patterson's understanding of space and how to use it is really next level. As a central midfielder, she always seems to be occupying the right spot and she leads her teammates into the right spots. She likes to express herself as she doesn't work within the confines of the central of the pitch as she will make a wide run if the space is there or play a ball down the touch line. Her touch and precision are excellent. She's also very good about continuing on and being a threat as she gets into the area, looking to get on the end of a ball in or a rebound and if she does, she finishes cooly. She is a rising sophomore at Memorial High in Houston, where she also plays for Albion Hurricanes FC.

Emma Quintanilla, Attacking Midfielder, Albion Hurricanes FC, Class of 2026

Quintanilla is from Houston, playing for Albion Hurricanes FC, and attends Travis High. She is also a member of the Nicaraguan U17 National team. She is very, very quick, has good speed and can be very dangerous. Her understanding of one and two-touch soccer makes her a next level player. She combines very well with her forwards, moves the ball quickly and continues to be a threat after making the second pass. She can move with the ball at her feet, she can finish well and when she isn't in possession, she makes well-timed runs and continues to be a threat to the defense.

Allyson Weimer, Attacking Midfielder, Kernow Storm FC, Class of 2027

Weimer is a rising sophomore at Aledo High and plays club for Kernow Storm FC. She is incredibly agile and crafty as she routinely splits defenders. She operates in tiny spaces very well, can keep the ball at her feet and get past a pair of defenders and get in on goal, where she finishes very well. She's also quite good at drawing attention and playing a ball out to a wide forward and creating opportunities for her teammates as she is very unselfish. She has great foot skills, good agility and quickness and an ability to dissect the game which makes her a dangerous No. 10.
