A Canadian Youth international, she’s part of Southlake Carroll’s star-studded high school varsity team and captains Sting Royal U17 in the ECNL league. Burtnett captained Sting Royal to a perfect campaign of three victories in the event. I got to watch the first of them, a 1-0 win over SLSG Navy on Satuday, in which she dominated the center of the field for her team. Playing as a defensive midfielder, Burtnett doesn’t let anything go past her, making strong tackles and appearing well to cover her teammates. She also operated very well on the ball, getting on the ball a lot to start the team’s buildup and doing great work to keep possession in the middle and to make quick switches to find teammates in wide positions.

Burtnett plays a tremendous role for Sting Dallas Royal ECNL 09 in midfield. Sitting in front of the team’s backline, she’s a very strong defensive player, who gets many stops in the center of the field. Burtnett is not only very sharp and aggressive with her tackles, but she also does an excellent job of reading the game and cutting passing lanes, be it on the floor or in the air. She’s also extremely well-versed in possession, consistently offering a passing option to her teammates and using her calm and vision to break pressure and find ways to make it past crowded areas of the field.

Burtnett stood out against Heat FC. She won everything that came through the center of the field. She was quick in her decisions and did well getting the ball off her feet to set up her teammates for success with clean, accurate passing. Burtnett’s play as a defensive midfielder was a highlight for the side.

Burnett was a key cog in the Sting Dallas Royal team that navigated the weekend extremely well, winning all three matches. She was heavily influential from her defensive midfielder position and managed to control the game on both sides of the ball. Burnett had a very strong defensive presence and, alongside the team’s center backs, gave a lot of confidence for the other players to push forward. She was also very strong in duels, going to the ball with a lot of energy and excellent timing. Her passing was very precise and she facilitated the team’s offense with intelligent shifts that got opponents out of shape.

Burtnett is the defensive midfielder for Sting Dallas Royal 09 ECNL. She previously played for Solar SC. She is enjoying a terrific start to the ECNL season with her new club team. She’s wearing the captain’s armband for Sting and she’s leading by example on the field. She’s involved in every play and playing like her cleats are on fire. The midfielder has been exceptional at cutting off passes through the midfield and quickly getting the ball into her teammates feet. She’s also shown that she has the ball-striking ability to put some shots on goal from over 30 yards out. Burtnett is playing like one of the best at her position in one of the top conferences in the ECNL this season.
