The Rangers took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break after Alejandro Gomez got in the end of a cross and headed the ball into the back of the net. Early in the second half, the hosts doubled their lead with Ronaldo Arzate scoring on a one-time finish. The Hornets made a final push near the end and got one back with Dylan Looney, who picked up a rebound inside the penalty box and scored.

It was the second victory in as many matches for the Rangers, who appear in first place in the MLS Next League standings, with six points. The Hornets are third, with the same six points (two wins, two losses).

The Rangers' center back played an excellent match and his presence on the backline gave the team the stability it needed to push numbers forward and play offensively. Because of his impressive mobility, Montiel was very good at stopping the Hornets' attempts to hit on the counter, often getting to the ball first than opposing forwards. Montiel was also very successful in his defensive actions, and, except for a play in which he was called for a foul late in the match, he won every duel he was involved in. He also ventured in the attacking half occasionally and was instrumental in the team's victory, sending the cross that found Gomez in the penalty box to score the team's first goal.

Playing next to Montiel in the Rangers' backline, Salguero also had a solid match, helping shut down the Hornets' offensive attempts with his excellent positioning and firmness to win duels. A ball-playing center back, he offered great support to the team's offense with his passing range and his ability to make switches and break pressure. Salguero also took some opportunities to overlap and get near the penalty box to help his team create. He moved to left back halfway into the second half and kept his strong level of play there. The team captain, he communicated very well with his teammates throughout the match.

Geranton was very active in midfield for the Rangers and was involved in a lot of what they did with and without the ball. His passing was always very accurate and intelligent and he combined well with fellow midfielder Xavi Castillo on some occasions. Geranton also made some runs with the ball and had a good presence around the penalty box, almost scoring the team's third goal in a shot that hit the crossbar in the second half. He did a solid job defensively too, covering a lot of ground and playing with good energy.

Gomez was an important offensive piece for the Rangers, using his versatility and quality on the ball to help the team create chances. The forward did a great job of scoring the team's first goal, making an excellent diagonal run into the penalty box and redirecting the ball with an accurate header. Gomez moved a lot in the final third and was always around the ball, often engaging in quick combination plays with one-time passes and quick runs. He also worked well using his body to make holdup plays and at times found space to make runs on the wings.

Banos came off the bench at halftime and made the Rangers' offense stronger with his direct and dynamic style of play. He made an immediate positive impact on the team, setting Arzate up for his goal after he made a quick turn on a defender and sent a great low cross into the penalty box. The forward kept moving and using his quickness to make turns and beat defenders and created at least another two chances for his teammates. Banos also had a couple of opportunities to score himself, but saw his shots miss the goal by just a few inches.

Playing on the right side of the Hornets' central defense, Michel did a good job of helping his team sustain the Rangers' pressure. He made several clearances and got blocks in what could have been good opportunities to his opponents, while also being very firm in his duels. The defender also displayed calm and quality on the ball, initiating the team's buildup efficiently. One of the Hornets' captains, he communicated well with his teammates and tried to keep things organized on the field.

Playing as a defensive midfielder, Munoz was very active for the Hornets. He saw the ball a lot and did good things with it, making quick turns to break pressure and finding good passes to his teammates. Munoz did some nice runs too, at times starting them in the middle and drifting wide to attack the vacated space on the wings. In the second half, with his team trailing, he was more present in the attacking half and showed some quality there as well, connecting good passes and helping facilitate plays.

Cardoso started the match as a right midfielder and had some good runs on the ball, beating defenders and helping his team transition from defense to offense. He also contributed defensively, tracking back and helping form the Hornets' second line in midfield. In the second half, he was pushed upfield, operating almost as a second forward and became more dangerous. He made a great play that resulted in the team's goal, beating defenders to enter the penalty box and finishing for the Rangers' goalkeeper to save into Looney's feet.

Looney came off the bench after halftime and gave new life to the Hornets' attack. He did a good job of moving and finding space to be available to his teammates and displayed great energy to chase long passes and fight for the ball. Looney was very opportunistic in scoring his team's goal, getting into a good spot in the penalty box to get the rebound of Cardoso's shot and send the ball into the back of the net. He almost equalized the match a few minutes later, making a great run with the ball through the middle and beating multiple defenders before the Rangers' goalkeeper Hudson Hrobar stopped his low show with an impressive kick save.
