The high school soccer season continues to progress at full pace in the state of Texas and this past weekend was a busy one, with many tournaments taking place across the Lone Star State as teams prepare for the start of district play.

One of them was the I-10 Shootout, a traditional event held in the Katy region, which this year reunited 64 varsity teams from the Houston area and beyond for three days of action between Thursday and Sunday. Prep Soccer Texas followed the action closely, watching five matches in the first two days of the event.

I-10 Shootout Photos:

Foster vs. Dawson

Cy Woods vs. Kingwood

Summer Creek vs. Langham Creek

Atascocita vs. Friendswood

Clements vs. Shadow Creek

We witnessed some really solid performances in each of these duels and are taking the week to feature the players who left a strong impression. As we get to the last position, let's take a look at the forwards who made a difference for their teams:

Engle led Dawson to a 3-0 victory over Foster in the first round of the Cougar Bracket, scoring twice. A forward with excellent movement off the ball, she was always in great spots to make plays and displayed calm in front of the goal to convert her chances, including a penalty kick that she drew. Engle had somewhat of a slow first half, but was much more active in the second part of the match, timing her runs well and attacking the space behind the backline. She also displayed a great ability to drop deeper to connect with her teammates and facilitate plays with smart one-touch passes.

Scored 2 goals this weekend in the @i10shootout . She played many different roles for the team offensively and was their main chance-creator, using her vision and dribbling ability to create space in the final third. Foster started the match as a left winger and had great moments there, beating defenders off the dribble and taking the ball to the end line to make crosses. After moving to the right, she was brought to more of a central role, where she contributed with her passing and continued to create chances. She also used both feet weel to pass, dribble and shoot.

Cy Woods vs. Kingwood

Reich came off the bench to lead her team Atascocita's comeback against Friendswood in the second round of the Falcon Bracket, which resulted in a 3-1 victory. Her physical presence up top gave the team's offense another dimension and helped them find ways to come back after trailing 1-0. Reich was a handful to Friendswood's defenders and worked very well with her back to the goal, getting on the end of long passes and combining with the midfielders and wingers. She assisted in the team's first goal and scored the second, using her excellent positioning to pick up the rebound of a shot off the post and send the ball into an open net.

Atascocita vs. Friendswood

Kehres did a solid job with Friendswood as the team lost to Atascocita 3-1 in the second round of the Falcon Bracket. With their opponents heavily dominating possession, the forward had an important role operating as a target for Friendswood's long passes and she did a good job of getting on the end of them and holding the ball until her teammates arrived. Kehres had a single opporntity to score during the match and she capitalized on it, starting and finishing a quick and direct counter-attack near the end of the first half.

Atascocita vs. Friendswood

Spencer was the catalyst of her team's Summer Creek 4-0 victory over Langham Creek in the Consolation round of the Warrior Bracket. Playing with full freedom as a second forward, she was a nightmare for opposing defenders, who had no answer to her game and couldn't find ways to slow her down. Spencer combined very well with striker Addison Hancock, who she assisted after a beautiful play on the right. The forward also scored herself, winning the ball in the attacking half and dribbled past two defenders before sending the ball into the back of the net. Spencer's runs were always very dangerous and she also distributed the ball well, facilitating many offensive plays.

Summer Creek vs. Langham Creek

Puna was unstoppable in Shadow Creek's 2-1 victory over Clements in the Consolation round of the Spartan Bracket. Besides scoring the two goals in the team's comeback, she was a constant threat to the opposing backline, making dangerous runs every time she got on the ball. Puna displayed great pace and ball control, but it was her ability to change directions in the blink of an eye that made her so difficult to stop. The forward battled inside the penalty box to score her team's first goal and found the back of the net for the second time with a beautiful, well-placed left-footed shot from outside the box. She also worked well with her back to the goal, facilitating many offensive plays.

Clements vs. Shadow Creek
