The high school soccer season continues to progress at full pace in the state of Texas and this past weekend was a busy one, with many tournaments taking place across the Lone Star State as teams prepare for the start of district play.

One of them was the I-10 Shootout, a traditional event held in the Katy region, which this year reunited 64 varsity teams from the Houston area and beyond for three days of action between Thursday and Sunday. Prep Soccer Texas followed the action closely, watching five matches in the first two days of the event.

I-10 Shootout Photos:

Foster vs. Dawson

Cy Woods vs. Kingwood

Summer Creek vs. Langham Creek

Atascocita vs. Friendswood

Clements vs. Shadow Creek

We witnessed some really solid performances in each of these duels and took the week to feature the players who left a strong impression. After covering every position, we'll now highlight the freshmen who showed great promise in the event:

Orlandi displayed solid offensive skills playing as an attacking midfielder for Cy Woods in the Cougar Bracket. She moved well off the ball in the attacking half and always found good spots to get on the ball and make plays. Orlandi's game is very smooth as she's technical and quick on the ball, giving her team a good offensive rhythm. Despite her small frame, she also has a good presence inside the penalty box, appearing in good spots to finish chances.

Miller was very solid on the backline of the Friendswood team that competed in the Falcon Bracket. Playing as center back, she was very reliable and stable, having success in most of the duels she was involved. Miller defended the penalty box very well, using her body to win the battle for space and make clearances, but also showed nice mobility when asked to defend higher up on the field. Her game in possession was simple, yet effective, as she didn't take many risks with her passing, but connected the vast majority of them.

Atascocita vs. Friendswood

Levermann had a big role with the Clements team that was in action in the Spartan Bracket. Playing the striker role, she was the focal point of her offense and worked as a target for most of their plays. Levermann displayed an interesting ability to work with her back to the goal, controlling long passes and connecting well with the players around her. She also did a very good job without the ball, putting pressure on opposing defenders with good success.

Monroy was a starter in the Dawson team that was in action in the Warrior Bracket. A center back with great mobility, she did a very good job of defending in space, thriving with her position and her ability to react quickly to plays. Monroy also held her own in 1v1 duels, waiting for the right moment to make moves and win the ball. She was very effective in possession too, displaying calm on the ball and connecting smart passes that helped the team break pressure.

Foster vs. Dawson

Delgado was a started in central defense for the Atascocita team that competed in the Falcon Bracket. Paired with older sister [player_tooltip player_id='26458' first='Andrea' last='Delgado'], she showed impressive defensive skills, dealing well with more physical and talented forwards. Delgado is not very physical, but she makes the most of her positioning and her quickness to win the ball and put pressure on opposing attackers forcing them away from the penalty box. She's got great quality on the ball and has the ability to efficiently support the offense with smart passes out of the back and direct, strong runs through the middle.
