The official start of the high school soccer season is just around the corner in Texas as teams from the Lone Star State have been testing themselves in scrimmages and non-district matches for weeks now, preparing for the beginning of actual competition in January.

Many tournaments are held at this time of the year as programs look for strong competition and this week one of the most popular of them on the girls' side, the I-10 Shootout, will take place across multiple locations in the Katy area. As many as 64 high school teams from the Houston area and beyond get on the field from Thursday to Saturday, competing in the eight brackets.

Prep Soccer Texas will be following the competition closely and reporting on the standouts, but before the ball rolls, let's take a look at some of the most talented prospects who will be representing their high school teams this week. These midfielders do a lot of work for their teams:

Quintanilla is a central player in the Fort Bend Travis side that will face Barbers Hill in the first round of the Tiger Bracket. A Nicaraguan youth international, she controls the game from the midfield for her team with her ability to distribute the ball efficiently. An offensive-minded player, she's typically involved in every play created by them and can hurt opposing backlines in a variety of ways. Quintanilla is very quick in her mind and is at her best when she has space to run with the ball, but can also operate in tight spaces, using her body to make turns and beat defenders. She's also a dangerous weapon in set pieces.
<blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-permalink="https://www.instagram.com/reel/C2LDY5GRm1T/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading" data-instgrm-version="14" style="background:#FFF;border:0;border-radius:3px;margin: 1px;max-width:540px;min-width:326px;padding:0;width:99.375%;width:-webkit-calc(100% - Despite her young age, she's a rock in central midfield for them, doing great work on both sides of the ball. She's very active defensively, covering a lot of ground and helping protect the team's backline with intensity and intelligence. Bizzell is also comfortable on the ball and often finds teammates in good spots in the final third, getting the ball to them efficiently. She also likes to join the attack and can be seen shooting from distance and infiltrating the penalty box to finish chances.

Highlights

Tompkins vs. Jordan

Camin and her Memorial side are entered in the Warrior Bracket and will face Summer Creek in their opening match. She's the team's main chance creator and plays a major role for them as a box-to-box midfielder. Camin's game is extremely well-rounded but what sets her apart is her intelligence, which allows her to make right choices and to pick simpler options over complex ones. She can be very dangerous in the final third with her vision and her ability to shot from distance and is also efficient with her set pieces.

https://youtu.be/mie_LpFh-JE

Trosclair and her Atascocita teammates will be in action in the Falcon Bracket, meeting Mansfield in their first match in the event. The Lady Eagles have a lot of offensive talent in their team, but their system just wouldn't work without Trosclair, who anchors their midfield and offers the defensive coverage they need to deliver in the final third. She's very good at winning duels and gets to stop offensive attempts from opponents even when outnumbered in the central are of the field. Trosclair also operates efficiently in possession, connecting solid passes and helping her team keep the ball.

New highlight video from spring/summer and start of 2024 GA season. @GAcademyLeague @ImYouthSoccer @RaginCajunsSOC @LSUSoccer @HailStateSOC @UHCougarSoccer @HTXSoccer @DBUWomensSoccer @TCUSoccer pic.twitter.com/MjI1XbEiJp
— Caitlyn (@Caitlyntros_08) September 6, 2024

Zukeran is a key player in the Tompkins team that will host the Falcon Bracket and will play Cy Creek in their first match. Zukeran can be used more centrally, where her vision and passing make more of an impact, or on the left, where she can get isolated against opposing outside backs and take them in 1v1 situations. An El Salvador youth international, she thrives in the final third, knowing what do in every situation and executing it perfectly.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtD_zEw3ZqE
