Top defenders and goalkeepers from Ohio's 2028 Class

Below is the scouting report on some of the top talent among the defenders and goalkeepers in this talented freshman class.    Left wing back. Left footed. Five-foot-two.   Listed as a left wingback on her player profile, I've mainly seen her play as a left midfielder. She's an excellent two-way player. Active defensively and fearless in the tackle, Giannetti has the potential to be an elite left back at the next level. She is a good player in the attack as well. She is an excellent passer and a good finisher. Giannetti has been outstanding this season at the club level. Frankly, I'm surprised she isn't getting looks from US Soccer based on her play. There are very few left-footed players in this region with as well-rounded game as Giannetti has shown during high-level club games this season.      Center back. ID2 National Training Camp. Leader.   Koishor is a center back on the Cleveland Force 09 ECNL team. She also earned a key role with St. Joseph Academy as a freshman. She plays as the left center back for her club team. She looks most comfortable in an off-ball, support role - operating as the last line of the defense in most cases. She's a smart player and reads the game well. She showed excellent instincts during the recent ECNL showcase in Florida with how she handled crosses. Thanks to those soccer smarts, she's got the potential to be a key defender at the next level.      Versatile. Skillful. US Soccer Talent ID invites.    Wilder is a forward/defender on the Ohio Elite 09 ECNL team. She can play outside back or winger. She's a weapon in either role. Wilder is a dynamic 1v1 player who is a good finisher. She has been outstanding this season with her consistency. She's making an impact in every game on the campaign. The pace and skill is tough to match at this level. The ease which she can take over the game suggests she has the potential to do the same at the next level.      Defender. US Soccer Talent ID events. Girls Academy Talent ID events.    Wilkes plays left center back for CUP 2010 GA Gold. She's left-footed. Tall and lean center back who is excellent on the ball and reads the game well. She's not an aggressive, fly into the tackle type of defender, but one who utilizes her intelligence to handle problems. She is the best center back from the Girls Academy in Ohio. She's got all of the tools to be a top center back.      Right footed. Outside back. USYS National Champion. Best XI at USYS National Championship.    Taylor is speedy outside back who has emerged as one of the top right backs in the 2010 ECNL age group. She's an excellent defender. She has great tactical acumen, which shows up on game film with how she positions her body to see the ball and mark on crosses. She's a smart player who makes good decisions on when to get tight to the mark and when to delay. There's a lot of advanced nuance to her game that is hard to notice, but results in her making a lot of game-deciding plays. She's highly ranked in our rankings based on her soccer intelligence. The area for improvement for Taylor is finding ways to impact the game in the attack when she can't beat the opposition for pace, which is rare at this point, but will be more common in the future. She has a good cross, but adding a left-footed cross on the cutback will take her to another unstoppable level.      Strong. Versatile    Boardman is listed as a defender, midfielder, and forward on her player profile for her high school team. It's easy to see how the Internationals 2010 ECNL standout could play any role on the field. Boardman looked really good at outside back during the ECNL playoffs last season. She's physical in the tackle, great at anticipating where to be to support her teammates, and does well with her passing. She's also excellent in aerial duels. Boardman has a high ceiling thanks to that versatility and fearless attitude in competition.      Defender. Duel winner. Consistent player.    Shumaker plays center back for the Ohio Elite SA 2010 ECNL team. She has played both left center back and right center back in recent games. She's looked strong in both roles. Shumaker's quality shines when she is 1v1 situations. She uses her body well to knock players off the ball. Shumaker has shown the ability to be an excellent center back for the next level.      Confident. Shot-stopper. Hard-working   Garcia is one of the goalkeepers on the Internationals 2010 ECNL team. She is a confident player who is excellent with distribution. She has secure hands and is capable of making the diving one-hand save. Garcia's most impressive trait might be her lateral quickness. She gets from one side of the goal to the other in a hurry. She's got a strong technical foundation for the position.
