When people talk about the WCAL girls league, the name [player_tooltip player_id='19981' first='Murphy' last='Walsh'] will be one of the first names on a list of top players in the West Catholic Athletic League. She was last year's Forward of the Year and this year's Midfielder/Player of the Year. Her incredible journey at Archbishop Mitty started when she was a freshman. She contributed in both goals and assists throughout her 4 years, and her total goals are at 43 and her assist total is at 18, giving her 104 career points. She will leave Mitty with a NorCal Division I Championship in 2024 and as a runner-up in 2025. The USC commit definitely left an indelible mark on her team, league, CCS, and NorCal runs.

Forward of the Year Sacred Heart Cathedral Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='146349' first='Francesca' last='Johnson'] helped her team to a 4th place standing in the highly competitive WCAL. Their 10-6-5 overall record also got them past the first round of the CCS Division II quarterfinals against Aragon HS with an upset win (2-1). Unfortunately, they weren't able to advance after falling to the #2 seed Salinas Cowboys.

Co-Defenders of the Year are Saint Francis Senior [player_tooltip player_id='70549' first='Gianna' last='Nurisso'] and Mitty Junior [player_tooltip player_id='83851' first='Angie' last='Cao']. Nurisso was a key part of the Lancers super successful run to the CCS Division I and NorCal Division I titles. Her leadership skills helped her squad to three titles this season, as the third was the WCAL championship. [player_tooltip player_id='83851' first='Angie' last='Cao'] also contributed to her team's success in their runner-up results behind the Lancers epic run. She and the Monarch's shouldn't put their heads down as they were one of the only teams to beat Saint Francis this year. The other team to top the Lancers was Valley Christian. Also, the Monarchs look to reload next year and compete for all three titles.

Last but not least, the Goalkeeper of the Year goes to Archbishop Mitty's freshman [player_tooltip player_id='199882' first='Vivian' last='Baker']. Although Baker nursed an injury during the first half of the season, she came back strong and helped her team get to the finals in both the CCS and NorCal. I was able to attend the CCS Championship, and I saw her put on a goalkeeper's clinic during the first half of the match. Her shot-stopping skills were on full display. Baker is also a member of the USYNT Player Pool and U15 ODP Interregional Team. She is also another reason why I believe the Monarchs will be back as a contender for all three titles.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1896275902960677339

I have to admit, my favorite matches were the Saint Francis and Mitty matchups as I attended one league match at each homefield as well as the CCS Division I final. It's always great to see the top level players as a well as the two best coaches in the section and possibly the region. Looking forward to seeing J.T. Hanley and Carlos Barboza and their teams in giving us another sensational series of high level, non-stop, entertaining soccer for years to come.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1888298767839019196

Just wanted to add two more exciting players to the list, as they both were Second Team standouts - Caitlin Motil of Saint Francis and [player_tooltip player_id='111097' first='Chloe' last='Miller'] of Mitty. I expect to see these two make greater impacts on their teams in the upcoming season. Both Miller and Motil play club soccer for MVLA, one of the top clubs in the Bay Area and region.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1896280086795755723

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1888373413032661401

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1885778321944056268

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1892981725791179019

The WCAL First Team All League Teams

Name School Year Position College

Kamryn Rosa - Saint Francis - 2025 - Forward Youngstown State

Brooklyn O'Brien - Saint Francis - 2025 - Forward - Xavier

[player_tooltip player_id='70549' first='Gianna' last='Nurisso'] - Saint Francis - 2025 - Defender

Penelope Correa - Saint Francis - 2026 - Midfielder - Saint Mary's CA

[player_tooltip player_id='19981' first='Murphy' last='Walsh'] - Archbishop Mitty - 2025 - Midfielder - USC

Nya Lemery - Archbishop Mitty - 2025 - Midfielder

[player_tooltip player_id='83851' first='Angie' last='Cao'] - Archbishop Mitty - 2026 - Defender - Columbia (NY)

Ava Couden - Saint Ignatius - 2025 - Defender

Amanda Hughes - Saint Ignatius - 2025 - Forward

Elena Shen - Sacred Heart - Cathedral - 2025 - Defender

[player_tooltip player_id='146349' first='Francesca' last='Johnson'] - Sacred Heart Cathedral - 2027 - Forward

Isabella Gasca - Valley Christian - 2025 - Midfielder

Grace Morton - Presentation - 2025 - Midfielder - Montana

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1893448526601805868

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1888313844545822720
