One of the largest and most traditional club soccer tournaments of the season, the Dallas Cup was held last week in North Texas, with 450 boys and girls teams competing across five different venues in the area from April 13-20.

Dallas Cup: Day 3 Girls Photos

Prep Soccer Texas was in attendance, and on Tuesday, April 15, we went to both the Richland College and the Ross Stewart Soccer Complex venues, where we followed many Girls' matches. With the tournament now concluded, we're featuring some of the players who made a strong impression in the matches we got to watch. It's now time we share our thoughts on the midfielders who did heavy work for their teams:

Thomson had a solid shift in midfield when her team Cosmos FC Academy 07G USC TX RL lost 2-1 to Legends FC San Bernardino G07. She did a good job of protecting the team's backline from her defensive midfielder position and used her physical tools to win duels in the middle. Thomson was also very active and efficient on the ball, using her skilled left foot to distribute the game well and find teammates in good spots in the final third. The midfielder also had a strong presence in the attacking half, contributing to her team's playmaking, getting into the penalty box to finish chances, and using her size to be a threat in the air in set pieces.

Benkowski stood out in her team's Villarreal NTX 08G's 3-1 loss to [program_tooltip program_id='283311' first='Dallas' last='Texans'] 08G ECNL. Despite the negative result, she was very active in midfield and was involved in most of the plays created by Villarreal. Benkowski displayed great ability to make runs through the center of the field and, on several occasions, she would drop back to get the ball from the defenders and gain a lot of ground for her team. She also fired some dangerous shots on target and was very precise with her set pieces. The midfielder also contributed defensively, showing good energy to play without the ball.

I got to watch Jones when her team [program_tooltip program_id='283444' first='Renegades' last='SC'] 08G ECNL RL TX side lost 7-0 to [program_tooltip program_id='283499' first='Sting' last='Dallas'] Black 08G ECNL. It was obviously a tough match for the team, but the only moments in which they were able to keep the ball and do good things with it were when she was involved. Playing as a central midfielder, Jones did a good job of keeping possession and finding good passes with her left foot, giving her backline brief moments to breathe and reorganize. She also competed a lot defensively, playing with good energy in midfield and winning some duels.

Griffith had a strong performance for [program_tooltip program_id='283311' first='Dallas' last='Texans'] 08G ECNL in their 3-1 victory over Villarreal NTX 08G. Operating on the left side of their attack and also centrally, she led the team's chance-creation efforts with her ability to beat defenders off the dribble and direct play. Griffith also displayed excellent vision in the final third, finding good passes and making the right choices every time she got on the ball around the penalty box. She was also involved in a key moment of the match in the second half, when she made a strong run in a transition play and was fouled by an opponent, who was then sent off, helping her team manage their lead in the final part of the match.

Harrington helped her team [program_tooltip program_id='283648' first='FC' last='Dallas'] 10G ECNL beat [program_tooltip program_id='283317' first='[program_tooltip program_id='280767' first='DKSC' last='']' last=''] 10G ECNL RL 6-0. She came off the bench during the second half, when her team was starting to slow down with the comfortable lead, and helped them raise their intensity with her play in midfield. A lefty with great physical and technical tools, she was very active in midfield, helping her team create chances at a high volume. Harrington was unstoppable with her runs through the middle and also drifted wide on some occasions, sending dangerous crosses into the box. She also completed the vast majority of the passes she attempted, displaying great vision and quality on the ball.
