California 2027s: GA Players to Watch Before Rankings

The Prep Soccer state rankings for the California 2027 class will be updated next week. Prior to the release of the new rankings, check out this scouting report on some of the talent from the Girls Academy that has caught scouts' attention recently.     Whittemore is a forward/midfielder on the Albion SC San Diego 09 GA team. She can play as a winger or center forward - and even show up as an attacking midfielder. Whittemore offers a playmaking quality that shines with her excellent ball-striking technique and vision. She tends to play on the front foot as she looks to get the attack vertical in a hurry. Whittemore doesn't shy away from contact and can be a weapon defensively with her physical approach. She's had some standout games recently in the Girls Academy.     Hall is a center back on the [program_tooltip program_id='283295' first='City' last='SC'] 09 GA team. She can play either center back spot. She looks comfortable with the ball on her feet - she's right footed, but hits a good pace with her left as well. She has been called into US Soccer Talent ID events in the past. She's been one of the top performers for [program_tooltip program_id='283295' first='City' last='SC'] for some time. Defensively, she's good at staying light on her feet and moving her feet so she doesn't get caught flat-footed. Hall has impressed in 2025 with her ability to shutdown the top attacking talent in the Girls Academy just as well as spring the attack for her City side. Her passing and vision has been elite for her position.     Genewich is a midfielder on the [program_tooltip program_id='283295' first='City' last='SC'] 09 GA team. She's previously been highlighted as a midfielder on the rise in California. Her play in recent months with her club team has been exceptional. She's playing a lot of confidence and it shows up in her ability to dribble past defenders in the middle of the field. Her skill with both feet shines especially with her change of pace and balance on the ball. Genewich is one of the top box-to-box midfielders in the Girls Academy.     Laughrey is a new addition to Fram this season. She previously played for Beach FC in the ECNL. The defender has fit in well with the Fram squad and quickly emerged as a top player in the Girls Academy. Laughrey can play as a center back or left back. Fram's defense is relatively young with two 2028s taking on key roles for the team. Laughrey's poise and experience has shines in crucial moments this season, which has helped her club team secure a 13-1-5 record in league play.     Rodriguez is a forward/attacking midfielder on the West Coast 09 Girls Academy team. She was part of the Girls Academy Southwest Talent ID event last year. Rodriguez stands out for her skill, strength, and game-impacting plays in the final third. She has a booming right leg and has scored on some long range efforts this season. One of the unheralded aspects of Rodriguez's game is her willingness to chase down every ball. She creates chances with her hustle and it shows up on game film. The West Coast standout has been a bright spot in the Girls Academy this season.
