Girls NCHS Top Performers: April

<p>Being the second month of competition meant that April would give us not just brilliant performances, but crucial ones too. Most conferences continued their competition that had started in March. Thankfully, the rest of the conferences began their regular season competition in April. Thanks to this, all conferences across all levels provided us with a plethora of players. Of these players, there were plenty of talents, of which some rose above the rest both statistically and performance-wise. The criteria for selection in each section are the same as <a href="https://prepsoccer.com/2025/04/girls-nchs-top-performers-march/">March</a>. The following seven players were the best performers in April, in my opinion.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Goal Leaders</h2>   <p>The following two players combined both goal-scoring ability with their all-around soccer ability. On the state <a href="https://www.maxpreps.com/nc/soccer/girls/spring/stat-leaders/goals/goals/">leaderboards</a>, they rank among the highest, which just helps prove how talented they are.</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Angela proves how much of a talent she is and how bright her potential is. After a month in which she scored 28 goals, she deservedly makes this list. Her constant brilliant performances have been highlighted time and time again, and with good reason. She controls the match to her desire both with her intelligence and with her ability. Her goalscoring is magnificent, bagging goals for fun. She doesn't just score easy goals either, with a fair few being fantastic finishes. She'll most likely get more mentions not just this season, but during her whole youth career.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Riley is a well-rounded forward who makes this list after scoring an impressive 30 goals this month. Though her goalscoring ability is impressive, it's even more impressive to note that she is a selfless player. Her link-up play helps both her and her team, allowing everyone to get important chances. In the box, however, she shines. Being there is her nature, always looking to get in by any means necessary. When she's in, she makes sure to make it count. She finds the back of the net spectacularly, embarrassing goalkeepers and defenders alike.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Assist Leaders</h2>   <p>Both players in this section ended this month with the same number of assists, though that is not the sole reason they both made it. Each has shown spectacular ability that puts them above the rest of their peers and makes them both promising prospects.</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Marley is a midfielder who has appeared before in a <a href="https://prepsoccer.com/2025/03/preseason-match-randleman-hs-vs-west-davidson-hs/">previous article</a>, and she has continued to impress throughout the season. In April, she got an important sum of 25 assists, which is no surprise thanks to her ability. Her quality makes her an effective player in the midfield, allowing her team to move fluidly. When she plays passes, she makes sure they find a teammate in prime positions. Her quick passes always look to progress play, which makes it easier for her to create chances.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Megan has also appeared in a <a href="https://prepsoccer.com/2025/04/3a-matchday-5s-best-performers/">previous article</a>, and she will surely continue appearing in more. Extremely talented in plenty of areas of her game, she produces magic constantly. With 25 assists this month, she backs up her brilliant talent with impressive statistics. A fantastic dribbler and passer, she creates danger all match long. She doesn't just have one or two good matches either. Rather, it's hard to find any match where she wasn't good. She's a natural midfield talent with the potential to be a stellar player.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Defending</h2>   <p>As was the case last month and will be the case this month, there are no stats to report on to highlight defensive players. The players in this section are the ones who caught my eye the most throughout the month through strong performances defensively and their contribution to their teams.</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Lia appeared in a <a href="https://prepsoccer.com/2025/05/4a-matchday-6s-best-performers/">previous article</a> thanks to her wonderful performance in a single matchday. However, looking at her game and her performances throughout the month, she has proven to be one of the most exciting full-backs. Her offensive talent is immense, making the right flank completely hers. Through one-twos and dribbles, she helps move the ball forward when she's in possession. Out of possession, she gives width perfectly. Defensively, she makes it hard for opposing wingers to even get attacks going. Her pace makes her both hard to get past when she's defending and hard to catch up to when she's attacking.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Lila is a fantastic center-back talent who has been the most consistent defender in April. She's strong and tidy, making her impossible to beat on one-on-one occasions. Her team plays far up the pitch, which makes her work more when the opposing team attacks. This doesn't faze her at all as she sweeps up all the danger towards her. Her positioning is fantastic, knowing where to go to cut off any danger. If her right-back or defensive midfielder leave their positions, she covers for them greatly. She's also intelligent in covering the ball, allowing it to go out or to be picked up by her keeper when the play calls for it. Finally, she loves a duel, winning them even if she's in the box.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Goalkeeping</h2>   <p>Goalkeeping stats are helpful, although they aren't necessarily reliable for this section. However, they do help uncover great gems, as is the case for the goalkeeper chosen for this month.</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Shaniah is a great prospect as a goalkeeper, especially given her height. She uses her height intelligently and strategically, reaching high and cornered shots easily. Her presence in between the posts makes the attackers doubt themselves as well, giving her more time to prepare to save the shot. When she saves, she makes sure not to parry the shot as best as she can. If she needs to, she'll make sure to parry it away from danger. She also commands her box fantastically, making sure that no ball is left loose if she can get to it. Coming out on corners or collecting the ball in the box makes her an effective player in recovering possession.</p>
