The Prep Soccer state rankings for the California 2029 class were released this week. Check out the rankings here. Learn more about our rankings process here.

One of the position groups with the most promise in this class is the wingers. There are a few players in this group who might end up as strikers or attacking outside backs, but they've shown enough promise to this point to suggest they should be considered elite prospects in the winger position.

Hoffman is a winger on the San Diego Surf 2011 ECNL team. She plays on the left wing, she's right footed. She's a dynamic talent who plays with energy. The prototype her is a downhill winger with dribbling skill as the main asset. She loves to get at defenders with relentless approach. She wins duels consistently thanks to her feints, close control of the ball, and quick feet, but also credit to her attitude and desire to be the best on the field. Her two-way play is probably overlooked, she is a tireless defender. Hoffman has been a key part of the attack for the Surf on the way to a pair of National Championships.

Johnson is a winger on the Eagles 2011 ECNL team. She is a gritty player with a competitive drive that makes her a versatile prospect. Johnson can and will do everything to help her team win. She was outstanding for Eagles in Richmond during the postseason run. She uses her body well for a winger. She can post up and turn on defenders. She has the pace to run past defenders with the ball at her feet. She showed excellent vision as well creating chances with her passing from the wing.

Earl is a winger on the So Cal Blues 2011 ECNL team. She is part of the US Youth National Team in the 2011 age group. She's a focal point of the So Cal Blues attack. She has the quality to win the duel on the dribble and create an advantage on her side of the field - she typically plays right wing. She also has the ability to get in behind the defense with her pace. Her off-the-ball movement is the best among the wingers in this class. Earl's stand out quality is the way she pushes the limit to find advantages. She is the type of winger who will gamble that her teammates win the 50/50 ball and already starts heading toward goal before they gain possession. She's also the type of dribbler who puts the ball just far enough away from her that it baits the defender into the tackle and then she can utilize her quickness to get to the ball first and get around the defender. She's a very clever winger who is well-coached to the nuisances of the position.

Pena is a winger on the So Cal Reds 2011 Girls Academy team. She can play on the right or left side of the formation. She is right footed, but can hit a good cross or shot with either foot. She's a full-force type of winger. She is going to go at top speed in every situation and force the defense to match her energy. She's got good skill on the ball and cuts close to her body to retain possession in traffic. Pena is a fearless winger who plays downhill and creates chances with her outright determination.

Randall is one of the players jumping from the Girls Academy to the ECNL this season. She is listed as a member of Slammers Koge 2011 ECNL for the upcoming season. She was a breakout star for the [program_tooltip program_id='283295' first='City' last='SC'] GA 2011 White team during the postseason run in June and July. The style of play for [program_tooltip program_id='283295' first='City' last='SC'] opened up the wing for Randall and she used her speed, skill, and endurance to shine in that role. All of those traits will be key for her success with Slammers Koge this season. She hits an excellent cross with her left and has proven to be a difficult mark with her pace. Randall will be one to watch this season for scouts as she continues to prove to be among the elite wingers in this class.

McReynolds is a forward on the [program_tooltip program_id='283425' first='[program_tooltip program_id='283424' first='Pateadores' last='']' last=''] 2011 ECNL team. She previously played for [program_tooltip program_id='283391' first='LA' last='Surf'] 2011 Girls Academy. She has been called into US Soccer Talent ID events in the past. McReynolds can play as a center forward or winger. She is left footed, but she's very good with her right as well. She scored a ton of goals last season in the Girls Academy, and has been off to a hot start with her new club as well. McReynolds has speed, skill, and toughness. She is an excellent finisher with either foot. She might be the fastest winger in this class and could be a rapid riser in the rankings this season.

Ulmer is a forward/winger on the Legends 2010 ECNL team. Ulmer also plays up with a 2009 team. She could be classified as either a center forward or a winger. She might have the most potential of any player in this class. She has lightning pace and jaw-dropping skill. There are times Ulmer can take over the game at the ECNL level, which is a rare trait. Ulmer continues to improve her game, and could be one of those rapid risers from this class.
