Slammers FC - National Playoffs and Tournament Title

Although some of the players may have been featured before, it is safe to say that most of these players are already on college recruits' radars, as they have had some recent success at the ECNL level. This is a critical year for most 2028 players, as they are priming to get calls from college recruits and coaches on June 15th.As the landscape of college soccer recruiting is constantly evolving, I'm starting to see a trend with both colleges and players looking to lock in their commitments sooner rather than later.   Fortunately, I was able to evaluate a couple of the players during the ECNL girls' national playoffs in Del Mar this past June and July. The Slammers G10 team had a good run while competing at the top level in the Champions League. They won their group but fell in the round of 16.The two players I was focused on were [player_tooltip player_id='176460' first='Brooke' last='Derby'] and [player_tooltip player_id='225392' first='Maiabella' last='Quevedo']. Derby was the goalkeeper who kept her team in the matches, while Quevedo provided the offensive punch with goals and orchestrating scoring opportunities. While attending the match, I met some college coaches as well as youth national team recruiters. Coach Joel Bancroft of University of the Pacific Women's Soccer and the duo of Armando Gutierrez and Diego Back were on hand to recruit players for the Mexican Youth National Team. Coach Back is also an assistant coach at the University of La Verne.    Most recently, this team won the Players Cup Challenge 2025 Championship. They played 4 games in 2 days, while scoring 7 goals and conceding 0 goals. Great play on both ends contributed to the success of the team, and the Slammers are looking to keep this rolling into their season as they intend to make another strong run to and in the upcoming national playoffs. [player_tooltip player_id='176460' first='Brooke' last='Derby'] - 2028 - GK - Brentwood   I was able to evaluate her at the national tournament and she did not disappoint.  Brooke showed her athleticism by going up strong to knock away or pull down crosses.  She is not afraid to make 1v1 challenges with players trying to make runs into the box.  Her ability to cut off the angled runs were crucial to her team's successful run in the playoffs.  I really liked how she anticipates well and positions herself to takeaway shooting angles and lanes. She is one of the best goalkeepers in the 2028 class and it would be great to see her given a shot at the U.S. youth national team level. She showed the ability to make strong runs at goal and solid shots with both feet and can score from long range. Quick passes, finding pockets, and great awareness in the attacking third are some of her strengths. I really like how she felt while scoring on headers and at different spots on the field. She looks like a natural scorer. Can't wait to see what she can do as a Sophomore.    She scored 8 goals as a freshman in high school. Laiken is ranked by Prep Soccer as the #157 in the 2028 class. We will be hearing more about her as she looks forward to making her school's varsity squad and as her club team makes plans to go further in the next national tourney. Her strength is being comfortable with the ball at her feet. She uses her athleticism to make strong and clean tackles while making quick and precise passes.    She had a very strong 2024-2025 ECNL season, as she was selected to the Southwest All-Conference First Team. Laiken is ranked by Prep Soccer as the #157 in the 2028 class. We will be hearing more about her as she looks forward to making her school's varsity squad and as her club team makes plans to go further in the next national tourney. Her strength is being comfortable with the ball at her feet. She was selected to the Southwest All-Conference Second Team in the 2024-2025 season.    She is a box-to-box player who can be a threat on offense as well as make clean challenges on the defensive end. She can make runs in the attacking third and fire off shots on goal or create scoring opportunities in the 18.She plays high school soccer for Santa Margarita Catholic. I saw one of her matches during the ECNL national playoffs, and she did track back to get some win-backs and made stops in their defensive third. She isn't afraid to get physical, yet she plays with poise and control. She has good technical skills in the area of passing and dribbling. She is also a call-up for Mexico's Youth National Team. Her lone goal helped her team beat Heritage 1-0 to reach the CIF State Division IV girls soccer recreational title match.
