Not much prep soccer coverage or any thus far on some of the standout players and top-level high school teams in the state of Hawaii. Hopefully, with this new series, I will be able to bring more soccer exposure to the place I once called home. While researching and reconnecting with some of my former teammates and contacts from Hawaii, it was great to see some of the last names of players who I might have played with or against during my youth soccer journey as well as into my early 20s.

Grateful to be given the platform to feature some of the up-and-coming as well as some of the top-tier youth players from the 808 state. In this article, I plan to cover high school teams from the islands of Oahu, Maui, and the Big Island. Eventually reaching out to other schools and soccer clubs on Kauai as well.

My goal is to eventually build a footprint to connect Hawaii soccer players to more opportunities to play at the college level. Although Hawaii has a few Division Two programs—UH-Hilo, Hawaii Pacific, and Chaminade—it only has one Division One women's team at the University of Hawaii in Manoa. Traditionally, Hawaii players would need to be discovered at soccer camps in Hawaii or make the ODP (Olympic Development Team) and represent their team in national competitions.

Since the early 2000s, a few Hawaii teams have made the long trips to places such as SoCal and Arizona to compete in national tournaments to catch the eyes of scouts. Some players, such as two of the ones being featured, also do split time in Hawaii and California and Arizona club teams. This is definitely one of the ways to get maximum exposure, but it is not necessarily needed to get to the collegiate level. A few of the top high school programs in the islands have already created a pipeline to some established college programs at all levels of college soccer. Stay tuned for seeing more up-and-coming and top-tier soccer players in the 808 state.

She plays as a defender for her high school team but can move up as a forward when needed. Last season, she made the 2024-2025 Girls Soccer - Division II All-League as a back (defender). At the club level, Kahalia earned a spot on the 2024 girls roster for the id2 National Identification/Olympic Development Program. She also plays for Hawaii Rush and [program_tooltip program_id='283476' first='Slammers' last='FC'] ECNL in California. Our scouts noted her size and strength as well as movement with the ball. One of the most recent video clips showed her range as a forward while scoring 4 goals in one match. Kahali'a is a former national champion with her Slammers team, and we hope to see her compete at the USYNT level sooner rather than later.

She plays as a mid/forward on her high school team. Last season she scored 11 goals and provided 2 assists in her freshman year. Kylie was also named to the All-Hawaii Girls Soccer Division 1 First Team during the 2024-2025 season. She has represented Hawaii as an ODP West Team player at Orlando 2024. Her team swept the East, South, and Midwest teams. She's with the class of 2028 and is currently an uncommitted player. I previously evaluated her at last year's ECNL National Playoffs, and she clearly stood out as a box-to-box player for the [program_tooltip program_id='283510' first='Utah' last='Royals FC-AZ']. She can find open pockets and make precise passes while slicing through the defense in the attacking third. Looking forward to having her have a breakout year. The USYNT call-up is definitely on a lot of scouts' radars.

At the club level, Kilinahe was part of an Albion SC Hawaii G09 team that reached the finals in an elite showcase in California in 2023. At the club level, she has made the state ODP (Olympic Development Program) team 3 times, and she could be a future USYNT player one day. She is with the class of 2028 and has attended a few showcases.
She is one of 6 freshmen to make the varsity team. Whitley has already made a name for herself at the club level and for making the ID2 National Selection International Tour 2025 team, which traveled to France in April 2025. They had a blowout finish against FBBP's U-16 academy team by a score of 11-1, while she scored her first goal in the closing minutes of the match. They finished with an overall 2-1-0 record. Hoping to see her get some playing time in a stacked Punahou varsity squad. The Buffanblu is gunning for a 4th consecutive state championship.
