The High School soccer season is officially back in the state of Texas, as of last Friday, programs all around the Lone Star State have been playing scrimmage matches as part of their preseason efforts to be in the best possible shape when district play begins in a few weeks.

For another season, Prep Soccer Texas will be following the action closely as it unfolds in the Houston area, attending multiple matches a week and providing the best coverage in the state, with Photo Galleries, Match Reports and Social Media posts that will help increase the exposure of teams and players in the Lone Star State.

Our 2025-2026 coverage started on Monday, when we were on site for a scrimmage between the Jordan Warrriors and the Bridgeland Bears Boys teams in Katy. With five minutes left on the clock, junior forward Tripp Roach picked up the rebound of a long free kick inside the box and scored for Jordan, determining the final score of the match.

Players of the Match

The junior forward was Jordan's most dangerous player throughout the match and was rewarded with the team's late equalizer. He then moved to the left wing and made some dangerous runs out wide, displaying solid pace and ball control, while also doing a good job of combining with his teammates in the final third. Roach was well-positioned to get the rebound in Jordan's goal and did a good job of reacting quickly to get his foot on the ball and send it into the back of the net.

The senior came in during the first half and had a very strong shift at defensive midfielder for the home team. James used his height very well to clear long passes and to win duels in the air, and thrived with his positioning. He also demonstrated to be a very mobile defender, not struggling when he had to defend in transition or higher up on the field. James was also very comfortable and intelligent in possession, dribbling the ball upfield when he had open space in front of him and connecting accurate passes out of the back, most notably long, diagonal ones.

The senior played as a wide midfielder and added a great deal of intensity on both sides of the ball for the hosts. Nava started the game on the left, then moved to the right and continued to perform at a high level. He had good offensive tools in his game, engaging in combination plays with intelligence and using his pace to move in the final third and make plays out wide. Nava was very disciplined tactically and always dropped back to support the outside backs on defense.

The junior midfielder was Bridgeland's main playmaker in the match, playing the No. 10 role with great intelligence. The Bears had some of their best moments in the match in transition plays set up by McHugh, who quickly and efficiently made the ball get to the team's attackers with his smart passing. He also did well when he got the ball under pressure in the center of the field, picking the right passes or moves to create space. McHugh, who drew a couple of dangerous fouls just outside the penalty box, made an excellent run to the far post in the team's goal, creating the separation needed for the pass to find him, and scored on a first-time shot.

The sophomore had a strong shift in central defense for Bridgeland, playing with remarkable solidity and competence. Otalvaro appeared as a left-sided center back and, with Jordan forcing wide plays on the left side of the Bears' backline at the start of the match, showed great mobility to step up and make stops. He also defended well inside and around the penalty box, blocking what could have been dangerous shots by the home team.

The junior goalkeeper played only the first half and did good work to get a clean sheet during his time on the field. Jordan got some shots on target during the first 40 minutes, and Somarriba handled them well, showing solid skills between the posts. The goalkeeper was very reliable with how he dominated the penalty box in corner kicks and also did a good job of quickly putting the ball back into play after he made a save, setting up some nice transition plays. Senior Grayson Geisler, who played the second half, also did well, despite conceding a late goal.

The sophomore entered the match during the first half and stayed until the end, playing three different roles. Gardner first filled in at defensive midfielder, but quickly moved to left back, where he had his best moments in the match. He was very solid defensively, and, despite not pushing forward, supported the team's buildup with his intelligent and accurate passing. Garner moved to left midfielder during the second half and continued to provide solid defensive support, while also appearing well in the attacking half with smart passing combinations and by sending a couple of dangerous in-swing crosses into the box.
