District play continues to progress in the Texas high school soccer season, as, since the middle of January, teams from all over the Lone Star State began playing their regional rivals for spots in the playoffs.

For another season, Prep Soccer Texas will be following the action closely as it unfolds in the Houston area, attending multiple matches a week and providing the best coverage in the state, with Photo Galleries, Match Reports and Social Media posts that will help increase the exposure of teams and players in the Lone Star State.

On Tuesday, February 3, we made it to Richmond to follow the District 21 match between the Fort Bend Travis Tigers and the Fort Bend Austin Bulldogs. The teams managed to complete the first half of action before the match was suspended due to inclement weather, with Travis leading 1-0.

Travis vs. Austin - Photos

https://www.instagram.com/p/DUUmhQ8DnrT/?img_index=1

The only goal of the 40 minutes of play was scored in the 19th minute, when senior midfielder [player_tooltip player_id='158773' first='Emma' last='Quintanilla'] took a corner kick on the left and sophomore midfielder Carlie Marek, who scored on a header on the back post.

Players of the Match

The freshman had an excellent shift in midfield for Travis, leading the team on the field and having a big role in their strong performance. Deployed as a defensive midfielder, Herath was very active at shielding the team's backline and got to intercept many long passes attempted by Austin. She was arguably even better on the ball, moving it intelligently and quickly and understanding when to methodically build plays up and when to play more directly. Herath's movement off the ball allowed her to get more touches than any other player on the field, as she always found the best spot to get involved, be it when getting the ball from the center backs or supporting the offense in the final third.

The senior was Travis's most creative attacking player in the match and was involved in most of the team's offensive plays. Quintanilla roamed everywhere in the final third and did a great job of making herself available for her teammates and asking for the ball. When in possession, she had success in most of her attempts to beat opponents off the dribble to create space and distributed the ball intelligently, releasing it at the right moment, time and time again. Quintanilla did very well in assisting in her team's goal, noticing Marek open on the back post and getting the ball to her with impressive accuracy.

The sophomore scored the only goal of the first half of the match and was the third wheel of Travis's midfield trio that led the team's solid performance. Marek was very dynamic, circulating in different areas of the field and demonstrating impressive tactical intelligence to occupy the right spots. She did well in possession, contributing to Travis's quick and efficient ball movement, and attempted some long-distance shots. Marek did very well in finding a way to get open on the back post and scored with a nice header.

The sophomore led Travis's backline to a strong performance, combining very well with freshman Scarlett Garland in central defense. Stewart was constantly matched with Austin's star forward [player_tooltip player_id='288542' first='Meagan' last='Schultz'], and did very well in preventing her from getting the ball with timely interceptions. The center back also did well when Schultz did get the ball, forcing her back or wide and keeping her away from the penalty box. Stewart was efficient in possession, too, playing simple passes and keeping control of the ball.

The senior had a strong presence in the center of the field, working hard to disrupt Travis's well-oiled offense. Wibben did well at reading plays and anticipating passes, and also did a good job of winning physical duels to get the ball. She connected some good long passes and was very precise when setting a pair of long free kicks into the box.

The junior played on the left side of Austin's midfield and brought good intensity to the table. Garza consistently stepped into the attacking half and showed good decision-making to exchange passes and connect with the players around her. She was also very determined defensively, always tracking back to support her team's defensive system and managing to make some stops.
