Texas HS: Tompkins beat Seven Lakes 3-2 with exciting comeback

District play continues to progress in the Texas high school soccer season, as, since the middle of January, teams from all over the Lone Star State began playing their regional rivals for spots in the playoffs.   For another season, Prep Soccer Texas will be following the action closely as it unfolds in the Houston area, attending multiple matches a week and providing the best coverage in the state, with Photo Galleries, Match Reports and Social Media posts that will help increase the exposure of teams and players in the Lone Star State.   On Friday, January 30, we attended a big District 19 match in Katy, reuniting the Tompkins Lady Falcons and the Seven Lakes Lady Spartans. In the very next play, freshman midfielder Rowan Crow crashed into the box and got on the end of a cross to level the score for the Lady Falcons. Seven Lakes jumped back ahead in the 21st minute, after freshman midfielder [player_tooltip player_id='295171' first='Milena' last='Felczak'] fed [player_tooltip player_id='214146' first='Bridget' last='Asekomhe'] with a great through ball and the sophomore forward buried it with a cross shot.   Junior forward [player_tooltip player_id='269325' first='Naomi' last='Medeiros'] got Tompkins back in the game in the 11th minute of the second half, beating a defender off the dribble inside the box and scoring with a great low shot. In the 22nd minute, senior midfielder [player_tooltip player_id='159503' first='Hayden' last='Lasida'] took a free kick from 35 yards out into the box and the ball made it past multiple players from both teams to go into the back of the net.   With the victory, Tompkins get to 15 points (five wins, one loss), appearing in second place in the district - they play Katy on the road on Wednesday. Seven Lakes have 12 points (four wins, two losses) and appear in fourth place - they will try to bounce back on Wednesday against Mayde Creek at home.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Players of the Match</h2>    The junior forward thrived as the focal point of Tompkins offense, playing a central role in most of their attacking plays. Medeiros used her body very well to control the space and managed to get to the end of almost every long ball that went her way, doing solid holdup play. She always did very well when chasing passes that went way too long, putting pressure on opposing defenders and forcing them to give up throw-ins around the penalty box. Medeiros worked very well with her back to the goal, but also made strong runs on the wings. She demonstrated impressive calm and quality in front of the goal to score the team's second after beating an opponent off the dribble inside the box and drew the free kick that resulted in the game-winner thanks to her efficient holdup play.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2026/01/2J4A0113.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-349432" /></figure>    The freshman was very solid defensively and played a key role in Tompkins victory. Lehner played primarily as an outside back and was tasked with defending Seven Lakes' star sophomore forward [player_tooltip player_id='214146' first='Bridget' last='Asekomhe'] 1v1, switching sides as needed. He was excellent in the role, preventing her opponent from getting on the ball on many occasions, and didn't give up any space, avoiding her runs on the ball. Lehner also won some duels out wide and made some clearances inside the box, some of which were in the air. She also contributed offensively, assisting Medeiros in her goal and sending some good crosses into the box in the first half.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2026/01/2J4A0015_e8c1cf.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-349402" /></figure>    The junior combined very well with sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='278380' first='Kendall' last='Homs'] at the center back position to deliver a strong defensive performance for the Lady Falcons. Stevens was very intelligent with her positioning, registering many interceptions and also doing well in duels. She made a key play in the final seconds of the match, clearing the ball after a rebound before any Seven Lakes players got to it. Lasida was very active at shielding her team's backline, especially in the second half, when Seven Lakes pushed forward, stopping many of their attempts with strong tackles. She also took good care of the ball, shielding it efficiently and moving it with accurate passes. Lasida hit the ball very well in the game-winning goal and was a little bit lucky to see it go in despite having many players in front of the goal.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2026/01/2J4A0025_499821.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-349403" /></figure>    The sophomore was subbed in near the end of the first half and did well in keeping a clean sheet in the 40+ minutes she was on the field. Favenasi helped Tompkins sustain Seven Lakes' strong push near the end with impressive solidity. She had to make some difficult saves and was very reliable, responding well every time she was called to action. Favenasi also helped her team get the ball into the attacking half with accurate punts, relieving the opponents' pressure for some valuable seconds.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2026/01/2J4A0089_248eb7.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-349426" /></figure>    The senior midfielder was extremely active offensively, getting involved in almost every attacking play orchestrated by her team. Aalona got on the ball a lot in the attacking half and moved it efficiently every time, connecting well with her teammates. She was very good at creating space with quick moves and scored the team's first goal with a well-placed shot that went in next to the post. One of the team's captains, she was very vocal in instructing her teammates on their defensive positioning and offensive choices.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2026/01/2J4A0064_c2ae69.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-349418" /></figure>    The freshman was a consistently dangerous attacking player for Seven Lakes, using her quality on the ball to make things happen in the final third. Felczak spent time on both wings and was very aggressive and creative with her dribbling, repeatedly beating opponents in 1v1 duels and creating good chances with crosses into the box. She was excellent when assisting Asekomhe in her team's second goal, picking the right moment to release the ball and putting the exact weight into her pass. With many talented, offensive-minded players on the field for the Lady Spartans, it was up to Lumpkin to provide some defensive balance, holding her spot in front of the team's backline. She was very active defensively, winning many duels in the center of the field and doing particularly well intercepting long passes with headers.
